Wiseblood is a true red, supports his players irrespective and i respect that. The thing for me is i have been a lucas supporter for so long but eventually i just came to the reality that he is not quite the level we need. Yes, he can do his job but i dont think he would make opposition wary. it depends what LFC want to achieve, because he would not make spurs or city or arsenal, or any team we are fighting for champs league with.

No, only towards the end of his tenure did he have to sell to buy. Rafa spent £18million on a crock - Aquilani. £18million! That to replace a player who has since proven irreplaceable, and a player we did not have to sell. Remember - Rafa bought: Antonio Nunez Josemi Gabriel Paletta Emiliano Insua Lucas Ryan Babel Albert Riera Seb Leto Andriy Voronin Pennant(!) to name but a few - these either did not/have not work(ed) out or are simply shite.

@diego750 Yes, I saw that lineup and I'm really disappointed :( We have seen it fail far too often since last year with Lucas/Masch and now Lucas/Poulsen, so i am naturally concerned. Also meireles had a cracking game in centre for portugal this week vs Iceland, I agree it makes no sense to put him wide. We seem to lack big time when Kuyt is out, nobody for the right side can fill in properly.

@damodongo thats true, i am fed up with patience with players. Like lucas scores 1 goal in 50 games and that saves him. Same like Babel, he plays shit for 5 months, then scores one goal and suddenly that makes him good in some fans eyes. We need consistency, every week. @diego750 Rafa's buys were very much either hit or miss at either extreme. To be fair, having players like Reina, Torres, Masch, Alonso, etc are miles ahead of what we had before he came. It really put us on the route to having a top team. Plus Agger, Kuyt, Benayoun,... But the shockers, however, were complete shockers, Lucas, Keane, Dossena, Pennant, babel... But Champs League final 2 times in 3 years! How many teams can do that now on the small budget he had?

@wiseblood7575 I do like Lucas' attitude. My issue is I have not seen enough attacking instinct in him to show me that he could make defense-splitting through balls or set up attackers. Even alonso for eg was defensive but would set up attacks for us in quick time as its his natural game, but lucas in over 100 games has not shown me any defense breaking play, which would have surely shown at some point throughout all these games, even if coming from deeper like alonso did. he's young though too.

@wiseblood7575 Rafa brought in Reina, Alonso, Mascherano, Torres, phenomenal players compared to our previous team. Yes he got some shockers too. You forget Rafa always had to sell to buy, so he could never add to his squad without selling key players first. Rafa's Total buys: 229m ; Total Sales 150m - that's 80m over 6 SEASONS (12.5m a season, very little for a top 4 club). How united have spent on players, eg anderson cost 18m, almost as much as LFC highest transfer EVER, torres.

@wiseblood7575 Yep, i agree we need to go with a more attacking lineup like yours, for sure. i believe the team for sunday is 4 2 3 1 - starting is: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Konchesky, Lucas, Poulsen, Cole, Gerrard, meireles, Torres. meireles is on the right again! Unbelievable. he would make such a difference for us in the middle, he's the one who actually goes forwards! I get frustrated with Poulsen/Lucas as they never bring the ball out. hope we get the 3 points, no matter how :)

babel has played many times as a forward, an if you check out his ajax career he does play as a winger. lucas was bought as a 'box to box' midfielder, a central midfielder, where he has played infront of mashcerano many times, i dont understand what you are trying to get at mate, like if we play him a bit further forward on the pitch he is going to show all kinds of great abilities we have neva seen before??

@diego750 I personally don't think Hodgson is attacking enough to win major trophies. he plays 2 very defensive midfielders in Lucas/Poulsen. That is our problem, we go against even smaller teams set up with 2 holding midfielders. It's far too negative.

@damodongo @wiseblood7575 The thing with lucas, is i dont think he is a specialist at anything. as attacking he cant shoot out the box, does not play tricky balls past defenders, no creativity. In defense he is not a proper out and out tackler either. So If we want a full on attacking mid, get one. If we want a proper DM, get one. he does either job pretty average, he's not gonna get us to top 4 i dont think.

I would have loved to see rafa still incharge.. atleast be rest assured.. we would not be 18th in table right now! and btw, he was not sacked... he had a six million payout clause if he was sacked... instead he walked away, the club could have never paid so much in these conditions and instead he made a very good leaving gesture to the fans.

@rajan904 do your homework, son. it was 18m spread over 4 payments, and those were not conditional on appearances. there's an extra 2m conditional on appearances. Josemi cost £2m, hardly peanuts. Morientes - £6.3m. Nunez £1.5m. 11.5m for Babel! £7m Dossena! Don't get me wrong, I'm still gutted Rafa left, but he should not be immortalised nor seen as the great wheeler-dealer some are painting him out to be.
