Tom definitely should conduct a class on Shakespeare and other playwrights. He explains the nuances so clearly- much better than any English Lit teacher I've had!

It is really interesting what he said, about the rhythms in the texts of the plays and how this creates a stamp of the authors. That reminded me a bit about of sounds of words and onomatopoeias. (Little language nerd over here🤓)

Shakespeare is touching, serious, funny, full of emotions, thrilling. And also not that easy to understand sometimes. (Before i have even watched Kenneth Branagh as Hamlet or Al Pacinos The Merchant of Venice in the Movies. )

I think his understanding of rhythm and pace is why Hiddleston is one of the VERY FEW actors who has accurately duplicated a Southern US accent in the movie I Saw The Light. I’m from Mississippi and I can assure you there are even accent coaches who fail miserably at trying to “sound” Southern!

I just had to read The Great Gatsby for school (I live in the Netherlands so it’s a hard book for us to read) and I couldn’t really understand why the book is so great, mainly because my level of English is just not on the level of that book. Maybe this has something to with it.

Tom on Pinter! So interesting. Pinter silences are pregnant. They make each audience member an actor in the play. Sometimes they also make me feel illiterate.

Pinter's remarks from Working With Pinter: These damn silences and pauses are all to do with what's going on … and if they don't make any sense, then I always say cut them. I think they've been taken much too far these silences and pauses in my plays. I've really been extremely depressed when I've seen productions in which a silence happens because it says silence or a pause happens because it says pause. And it's totally artificial and meaningless. When I myself act in my own plays, which I have occasionally, I've cut half of them, actually.
