Ben's _"That's not gonna tessellate, you fucking maniac!"_ at 0:29 might be one of my favourite DEEPLY annoyed and arbitrary accusation he's made that makes this payoff for Tom *_INFINITELY_* better.
@jamesahibbard3 жыл бұрын
Especially since the fact that they don't tesselate is why they form a dice, and why hexagons (which do) can't form a regular 3D shape. Such nerd outrage in the way he says it too.
@PsychShrew3 жыл бұрын
fun fact, since it's impossible to properly tile a sphere with hexagons, on every Rimworld map there are a few pentagonal tiles generated

The phrase they were looking for was "Platonic Solid". No Platonic Solid is hexagonal. A Buckyball is as close as you can get. The only Platonic Solids are: - Tetrahedron (D4) - made of triangles - Cube (D6) - made of squares - Octahedron (D8) - made of triangles - Dodecahedron (D12) - made of pentagons - Icosahedron (D20) - made of triangles By the metric of Platonic Solids, it's clear that the triangle is the best polygon. Triangles are also the best polygon by virtually every other metric that exists.

What polygon do we use for 3d modeling? That's right, triangles! What can you make a Hexagon out of? Triangles again! The most basic and best shape!
@isaacwebster88713 жыл бұрын
@@CreativityNull without wanting to actually too hard when i'm doing modeling I model mostly in quads (4 sided polys), but I will relent that tri's are still needed
@CreativityNull3 жыл бұрын
@@isaacwebster8871 I model in quads... However quads are actually still Tris. The software is just taking two Tris and mapping them together. Some software will dynamically assign where the concurrent lines on the tri for the selected quad are based on the location data of all 4 vertices, but at the end of the day when it is calculated and rendered, it is using Tris.

I used to think hexagons were the bestagons but then I took trig. Triangles are like the god shape, from which all other shapes spring forth.

The reason the hexagonal prism isn't a -hedron shape is because it's not the same shape on all faces. There are some squares in there, so it's not a true platonic solid.
@RonnocFroop3 жыл бұрын
I maintain that squares are the best polygon. They can tessellate in both 2 and 3 dimensions, and when using them as squares you can move in any dimension they're tessellating without having to move in another dimension. What other polygon can do all that?

@@yakobsoulstorm5187 I can't be bothered to see how well they tessellate in 3d, but they fill the last requirement even worse than hexagons. You can only move in one dimension in one direction at a time, not even the entire dimension.
