Saying hamburgers are German is like saying pizza is Mexican because the tomato is originally from the new world. Yeah it may have come from there, but the place it developed turned it into what it is known as. Also I don’t know any German global burger chains.

- Crawfish is an animal no? Not a recipe. It is present across the world. Not just the US. Typical boiled US crawfish is mid btw, compared to recipes from other countries. - Peanut butter actually traced its origin to the Aztec and Inca civilizations (none in the US). The first patent for modern day Peanut butter were done by Canadian in Montreal. - Clam Chowder & Deep Dish is nasty. Jambalaya and Buffalo Wings are the only 2 that actually taste good.

Fun fact: though the evolution of what would become the modern hamburger has roots in Germany, it did in fact originate in America. The first foods that could be called a hamburger were found in many locations across the US, with the earliest I’ve found being in New York in the 1830s where a restaurant served ground beef between two slices of toasted bread. The name “hamburger” came not from the location of the food’s origin, but rather from the reputation of the town of Hamburg for high-quality steak. Several other restaurants have claimed to invent the hamburger, including some in Illinois, California and Texas.

@@ThereIsNoSpoon678 “Birthday cake” is such a broad term it could apply to any such good item. But it originated in ancient Rome. Soda, the flavored carbonated beverage, as we know it was invented in the 18th century in England. What else am I supposed to imply? @@Viktor-gi5up I mean…nobody deep fried back then. A deep fried julienned potatoes is probably as American as anything in the world. It’s like pizza coming from Italy. A Chicago deep dish pizza isn’t even recognizable as a pizza. Heck a regular Pizza Hut pizza doesn’t really resemble a pizza from Naples. It’s also disputed that a Hamburger actually have origins in Germany. But really it is likely that it’s called that because it was a sandwich with a filling of a Hamburg steak. What we currently think of as a Hamburger was not traditionally eaten in Hamburg and what we currently think of as French fries were not eaten in Belgium.

Yeah... But beans on toast isn't the "favourite meal" for any other reason than tradition and childhood nostalgia. It was something cheap and available during the years of rationing during and after WW2 (with a little help of Heinz marketing). Beans on toast to brits is like PB&J to americans (which to be fair is also beans and fruit on bread so... Meh?) or cheese on bread for germans or pasta with olive oil and garlic for italians. It's just a quick, cheap and easy things for people to whip out in a pinch that became tradition.

Saddest part is he's wrong about the hamburger. Yes, Hamburgers were named after the City of Hamburg. But it was an American (German Immigrant, but if you say that someone isn't American cause they are a German Immigrant than half the nation isn't American). So yah, he's wrong, Hamburgers were actually made by Americans. I believe hot dogs were too but I could be wrong on that one. Sucks when people are so stuck on the "America lied about things" train that they end up believing the first thing they hear which along the same way of thinking. So if America didn't invent French fries, and Hamburg is a city in Germany and the name came from Germany, then of course you will assume that Hamburgers came from Germany. But this is only because you didn't research further and just assumed based on one fact, and that assumption comes from stereotypes and global opinions on Americans which tend to be kinda negative and that we are stupid and wrong about everything. Basically if America wasn't seen as "wrong" all the time, then people wouldn't assume incorrect things like this. I hope the world changes their view of the US soon, as such a world where everyone views on group (the strongest civ) in a negative fashion is a recipe for disaster.

Not at all. Hamburger steaks were first placed between two buns as a way for sailors who were stopping over at the port of Hamburg to be able to eat them on the go. As sailors traveled, the dish spread. But a ground beef steak between two buns is 100% German, from Hamburg.
@avocares
@avocares 13 күн бұрын
@@AFVEH I'm willing to learn something new, but I cannot find a source that indicates that what anyone thinks of as a "hamburger" came from somewhere other than the US. I even dug into the source book from Wikipedia - Hamburger: A Global History by Andrew Smith, which includes the statement "The [Russian] Tartars had nothing to do with the hamburger; the citizens of Hamburg, Germany, had only a remote connection with the sandwich". It goes on to clarify that a hamburger is a sandwich but a sandwich is not a hamburger, since the origins of sandwiches date back to the 1760's and John Montagu, the Fourth Earl of Sandwich (England), though the author clarified "the Earl is unlikely to have been the first person to consume a slice of beef between two slices of bread, but he has nevertheless been credited with the creation of the sandwich ever since". The also goes into the history of why the industrial revolution in the US was key to the hamburgers invention "But it took almost two decades before the sandwich met the Hamburg steak. The invention of the hamburger sandwich was fostered by the industrialization of America...". But if you can find me a reliable source that clearly states that what the world knows as the hamburger was actually invented in Germany, I will amend my original post.
