Tom tells a story about this duet. When they finished it the first time, Stevie didn’t feel like had gotten it and asked to do it again. The director said, “no that was fine, we got what we needed.” And Tom said, “Excuse me. If Stevie wants to do it again, we’re gonna do it again!”

jurymax99 Well, If this show was taped in 1969 (as the caption clearly states) & Stevie Wonder was born in 1950 that would make him 19-years old here. For Stevie to be 29 as you claim, this episode would have had to be aired in 1979? That would be difficult since “The Tom Jones Show” only ran for three years (1969 - 1971). Now Tom Jones was 29-years old here, but that’s not what I said in my comment.

@@stsk7 1) I don't know where you're from. I'm from the US. And you're right, he's not given his due here. In the UK, he's basically Elvis. 2) In the US -- he had a number of forces working against him. a) He didn't write his own songs and he didn't front a nuclear band in an era when doing one or the other was paramount. b) His TV show ran 3 seasons on ABC in the US... the first two to ratings success. Then, in season 3, NBC and CBS began running Hollywood films against him. This was a big deal in the 1970s, before VCRs, DVDs, streaming video, TV networks got huge ratings from showing Hollywood films. They begged ABC to put him in another time slot; ABC refused. His ratings tanked. This may have been on purpose, as ABC was notoriously cheap thru the early 70s and knew Jones was making about $100k per episode when Carroll O'Connor was making less than $30k per episode to star in All In The Family, 1971's highest-rated TV show. Jones would have become much more expensive had ABC wanted a Season 4. c) Two years before the start of his TV show, he regularly began appearing in Vegas. In the 60s & 70s... artists with regular Vegas gigs were thought of as acts that had jumped the shark.

In consecutive episodes, he'd have Johnny Cash, Little Richard, and Janis Joplin. 2) As much as he has a fan base in the US... he is basically a Demi-God in the UK. If you see outtake clips of the coaches (of which he is one) on "The Voice - UK" during their downtime, mostly it's Tom Jones holding court -- with Will.I.Am, et al... all ears, no egos... just soaking it all in.
