It is not an infrastructure problem, but a moral and inhumane problem. After I arrived by ambulance at the hospital, I was pushed into a broom closet with wet mops, stinking buckets of water, no blanket or water, or anyone coming around to take care of me for nearly 18 hours, left on the floor after falling off the gurney, I was told to stop moaning, as I am not a child and no one is obliged to cater for my whims. Thank God for an excellent doctor who most probably saved my life that day. After 3 IV drips, injections and treatment, I phoned my family to come and fetch me. They were accosted at the door for interrupting the personnel's tea time... this was at about 22h00 that night. Being taken home and nursed there by excellent hospice personnel was the best decision I could have made at the time. Thanks to amasing nurses and drs in this country who still look after patients with deep compassion and profesional care. I salute you!

Politicians should not have private health care and use government facilities for their medical care as the common man.

Thank you Tom for making that video. It's given a lot of hospitals a huge wake up call. I think many doctors will also change their attitude, let's hope. I believe you will be treated respectfully if you need to go back to Helen Joseph, the nursing staff mos 11:52 t likely see you as a hero. They've been hoping for a change for the better to happen. You are a hero Tom!!! I'm praying that your chest heals and that you won't need the operation after all. Get well soon. Many people are praying for you

When i had my child in 2022 in a public hospital, the nurses were great but the doctors were awful. A "doctor" would walk in, not talk or greet anyone, flip through my file, sometimes scribble in the file and then begin to physically examine me, accessing parts of my body not a word would be spoken just grunting at me. One after another, like routine, they would march in and do the same thing. Grunting and pointing to patients without even looking at them. Some would be in Doctors scrubs, others would just be in jeans and tshirts and after a while you dont really know who is who and why that person is touching you and you're expected to give them access to your body. As a female its very uncomfortable and unsettling.

And even with medical aid - the insurance companies don't give adequate cover and then you quickly go from private treatment to state anyway. So what's the point of medical aid even lol

Something is very wrong at Helen Joseph. It goes deeper than we realise. There is more to it.

I believe Tom is raising valid points.who wants to be in a room with a dead body covered in flies.BUT, they have limited control over flies but they do have control over how they conduct themselves.i work in a public hospital too and i can thankfully say where i work is a well maintained place, even during budget constraints.its not a perfect place to work but we have our challenges.

It is concerning that the Dr that told him his other Dr had been moved to other patients spent 10 mins writing in his file but hadn't even examined him yet - what on earth did she have to write without having examined him.

RK Khan just as bad. Treatment of patients and visitors is disgusting. Not only the doctors but the nurses are rude and treat patients with disdain. With my experience the nurses were mostly Indian who had superior attitudes. My daughter was in labour for 12 hours during which time she was not seen by any doctor even though she was an at risk patient. The doctors walking past ignored her cries for help. Instead the nurses asked her why she was making so much noise. The experience was shocking.

Not all the doctors and nurses are as bad as this. I was a patient at hj for 3 months in 2022/23 so I have experience. The Gauteng health department is to blame for all that is wrong with that hospital.
