He was lucky enough to have a circle of friends and connex to get him to private healthcare. The advantage of privilege. I would like to see what he proposes. He bashed NHI. For 85% of South Africans their only hope of improvement is NHI. I am a state health client. The drs who treat me are also the only practice in town for medical aid patients. I get less than a minute of their time at the clinic and about 120 seconds at their private practice. They are also on the Discovery panel, for that scheme they were proposing before NHI was promulgated. (Under R500 per month with dr visits paid for).

It's ridiculous my husband's granny died in that hospital and that was already years and years and years ago, while she was there the old lady next to her kept asking for some tea or at least some water, after a few hours of this I couldn't take it anymore so I ran out the room and started asking hospital staff to show me where the kitchen is, they say why so I said there's a poor little lady lying there who's been asking for something to drink the whole day every staff member just says yes and then never comes back, when they realised I who don't even know this lady was about to jump in and do their jobs for them then they only caught a wake up, I will seriously get myself a medical bracelet prohibiting any emergency people to take me to any public hospital in in this country, if I get in an accident so be it, I'm not scared of dying right there and then else I'll die in my home, but I will not die in any of the government hospitals in this country. It's sick and infuriating. The doctors and Nurses at these hospitals should not be medical "professionals" because a real medical professional has empathy for other people and care about other people and the well being of other people, these "nurses" and "Doctors" don't

Politicians and officials don’t care because they live in a taxpayer funded bubble. They go to private hospitals and their children to private schools. Anyone who has had the misfortune of going to Helen Joseph hospital will see that the place is a hell hole. The walls and floors are literally falling apart, the place is filthy, there are rats and the toilets are broken and filthy. Most of the staff - including nurses and doctors - humiliate you and treat you like you’re not a human being. Rahima Moosa hospital conditions are just as bad -even after numerous “commissions of enquiry” over the years. This is the “better life for all” that the ANC has brought us after 30 years of cadre deployment, mismanagement and corruption. It’s truly sad.

For us the treatment from the nurses was the worst, and if you ask questions they will punish your sick loved one by not paying attention to them. Sadly this is not the first or the last time that this will be said about the state of government hospitals & how they have gone to the dogs with the current regime. The government has allocated millions & millions, if not billions, from the fiscus to healthcare to maintain hospitals & clinics, but instead of doing that & providing decent facilities for the people who can't afford private medical aids, they have stolen all the money, given tenders to their comrades, while taking huge kickbacks & this is the result. Now they want to steal money from private individuals & increase their pot to make sure they can steal even more. Money from private individuals who are entitled to spend their money as they please. They can forget it. These politicians who are trying to force the NHI onto citizens must go & stay at government hospitals like Helen Joseph & see how long they last there. Mr. London, don't back down because you are being criticized. This is a tactic that guilty parties use. Compare today's government hospital doctors and staff to the hospital doctors and staff of 35 years ago. I had an experience where a family member died in the Livingstone Hospital 20 years ago. It was horrendous; cockroaches were literally falling from the bedside curtains and running all over the place. All I can say is that most government hospitals are way below standard, and most nursing staff and doctors have a chip on their shoulder and have an entitled attitude. The ANC has been making a mess of many things over the past 30 years. The killing of a whistleblower two or three years ago says it all. We, as South Africans, are tired of the rot and stealing. South Africa is definitely not geared up for an NHI. They have not provided proper hospitals and care over the last 30 years and have proven that they are not capable.

In SA it would very ignorant to not observe race in many issues. I am black and i am very happy that Tom's video came out and everyone can see the truth. Why i say this is that for example, in Umlazi Prince Mshiyeni Hospital, people get the worst worst treatment possible. The burses are rude, and doctors don't care. People lose children at the labor ward due to neglidence, and when they speak out, it never gets this much traction. GNU needs to do better. A patient with a gunshot would can't be told to sit in benches and hold their bloody wound ( yes, they do that at PMH). Its sick and depraved how they treat people in government hospitals.

Big up to Tom, this happens every where, when my mom was sick admitted in one of the hospitals in Pinetown she was so afraid to ask for anything, even any questions pertaining her treatm, other patients too, they were treated like they were in jail, ooh my gosh the so called her Dr..was terrible, no care at all, she will beg us to move her out of the hospital. The treatment was making her more sick but the Dr didnt want to listen. Wrote a letter to Ombuds but couldn't send it, was afraid especially for her. I pray that they realise one day that it could be them or their family members in the similar situation, suppose they dont care. Get well soon Tom.

Hi Tabor I also think that the plumbing and the bathrooms at hospitals must get better even if we don't have the NHS at public hospitals and thank you Tom for making that video.

That is why they don't share their toilets with patients because they know they are disgusting
