@@9HighFlyer9 we have to do that to survive and function on a day to day basis, humans only really had the mental bandwidth to spare complex thoughts and associations for a web of about 300 other humans, which is MUCH smaller than one might think, anything beyond that requires more and more abstraction and mental shorthand, It's a fun intellectual and empathic exercise, but just like you cant spend 16+ hours lifting weights and training, you can't live in a state of sonder.

I can really relate to Tom in this song, because I was like him... I loved to people-watch... to imagine what kind of lives the people around me were living. It helped me to not judge them so harshly, as we all seem to automatically do. And he can relate to many of these people himself, because even though he grew up in a middle-class home with good parents, good schools, etc., he went through hard times as well. So like he said... you want to know why someone is how they are... "put down your phones and F-ing ASK" :)

I'm glad y'all did this one. From what I know, the people he is talking about in this song, are people that lived in his neighborhood in South Central LA. Anyhow. This song is powerful and one of my favorite Tom songs. As far as I know, y’all don’t have children but if someday you choose to and are blessed with being parents, you guys will be amazing.
