I do understand making the description work for you, but I might suggest having the original video linked in it, otherwise it might look like you're just trying to profit off of Tom's work. Wow. I've been in that place. To me this song captures how meaningless and empty everyone's well meaning platitudes feel in that moment. Since that time, I've found myself sitting at the other side of the table many times... and sometimes all I can say is "I know", because I know I can't fix it for them, I know it sucks, but I also know the nothings we say to make ourselves feel better ring hollow and only sting more.

Suffered with depression my whole life. First time I heard this I was in a dark place too and I cried for like an hour You can tell how much he means what he's saying. But he ends each song with some form of hope or optimism. The last frames are him reaching up to get out. Yeah, it's hard for people with high empathy to see MacDonald, who we love and respect, going through such a horrible time. It really hurts.

To tell someone who is actually in a state of utter despair or pain deep enough that taking their own life is an actual option on the table...if not THE only option they believe is left...to "just hang in there and it'll get better," is closer to the final insult that will push them over the edge, than it is to anything remotely resembling encouragement. When it comes to deep depression, the person suffering is both hostage and kidnapper at the same time, and we are all in the position of the negotiator. We are woefully untrained to deal with either one of those ourselves, let alone both simultaneously in the same heart. "Raising awareness" (lol?) isn't gonna cut it, blathering stupid platitudes and random one-liners we remember seeing on Pinterest and FB isn't gonna cut it, being a shining example of how awesome life can be isn't gonna cut it, and ignoring the situation hoping somebody else deals with it is not going to cut it. You have to prove you understand them, and the burden of proof is 100% on you. If you just don't / can't / won't, then network and connect them with somebody that does. Only people who are currently in or have been in similar places mentally and emotionally can truly help them find the root cause and not just the symptoms. Nothing knows pain like pain does, and trying to apply "fluff" to pain just adds insult to injury. There are some extremely amazing people out there who are ready to end it all that could be saved, if those of us who have actually experienced what they're going through are willing to open our own pandora's box back up and just sit down and share that together with them. The feeling of being stuck alone with no hope and nobody even understands is the worst, you can stand in the middle of Times Square in NYC and feel like the last human on earth. Having someone similar walk up and show you "Hey man, me too, you know? Here look:" does NOT outright fix anything at all, but it absolutely CAN derail the speeding train. I respect the shit out of Tom for being that dude for so many people by opening his own pandora's box with this song, intentional or not.

I agree. Though I'll say this, if someone doesn't understand personally, and willingly still will do that same thing, sit with you and try to understand, and just be there for you. That can make a huge difference too. It's more than just feeling alone, like nobody understands, but also that nobody even cares to understand not "sees" you.

This is just too relatable. Even looking back on those times, hearing that phrase, makes me feel a little bit sick to this day. I don't think anybody can fully regain the person they once were once you get to know the dark side. That darkness kind of lives within you, but you do become more resistant if you pull through. I know this much.

Always worried when artists drop songs like these cuz I remember when Chester dropped “Letting Go” and then not long after he took his own life. We never kno what actually is going on inside them even if they happy and cheerful on the outside. No one thought Robin Williams, a man who brought so much joy to the world could take his own life. This may be a song just to get a point across but sudden fame and the hatred that comes with it can do things to people’s minds that we can’t comprehend. This song was deep, really deep. Wow Tom has such a unique way of making us think about life, society and the world. Much ❤️ and respect ✊🏻

Kung Fu Panda reference lol It's an old saying however that film reminded me of it. I try to keep that in mind whenever I'm in a deep spot (I have CPTSD and have battled addiction for some time now) I love Tom's work, though I prefer pieces like this more than the satirical tracks (though they're needed too) I suppose it's because they speak to me and I can relate it to my experiences. That's probably so true for many others too. Anyone going through this and still hanging on has my utmost respect. Keep hanging, just a little longer. If you don't let go, you will find the strength to pull yourself up and get back on your feet. If you get knocked back down, then remember you've gotten up before, you can do it again.

I know this one was a tough one to watch, but it is so relevant to what a lot of people are going through today. I think Tom shared this with us to show he had these same thoughts and feelings but was able to come out the other side and find the light, a better way, a reason to live....but still struggles with these same feelings. Suicide has increased greatly in the US over the past few years, the world is in a state of turmoil and some people are just mean and others don't realize the effect that their words and actions have on others or just simply don't realize how lost their loved ones really are. I think he was promoting awareness from all sides (as usual)! Tell people you love them and care about them, even if they are different, struggling, making wrong choices...all they need to know is someone cares.. #HOG 4EVER

This song is so perfect, because depression is not really sadness, it's more like exhaustion, and Tom expresses that so well here. Death feels like the best option because we become so incredibly tired of feeling the things we do, and dying looks like rest. "They say keep hanging on; I don't know if I want to." It's extraordinarily difficult to keep going when you feel that drained. Thanks for this reaction, I love it when people discover this gem of a song 💯

I could tell you were emotionally distraught. I don't know how to explain this, I know why Tom wrote this, as his therapy, and to potentially help people. But even though sonically I don't like the song, the lyrics are powerful, and purposeful. But the fact that what this is that comes after us all, that's what I despise, and the fact that we have to have these tracks, as a necessity pushes my comfortability. I love that we have it, because we need it. I hate that we have to have it. Therefore I don't like this song. I don't know if any of that made sense.

@@jessicabatson8924 Exactly, as Tom said in the song, therapy and medicine to help with mental health can often be expensive and inaccessible for the average person.

@@EKLIPz08 exactly! everyone knows most of our problems stem from mental health and lack of resources to help those that need it. its like its done with the intention to keep us all dependent on drugs to cope.

What's being depicted in this video, and by the lyrics of the song, are just the brutal reality of what severe depression and anxiety, not to mention the therapy for them, is actually like to live...on most days. It literally takes every ounce of energy to pull your mind out of the mindset of it and take it till you get a better option, plan, inner voice...whatever you want to call it...that makes it better.

I have felt like this a lot throughout my life. The first thing I can remember is intense anxiety. I've been diagnosed with ADHD, Borderline personality disorder, OCD and substance abuse disorder, and have gone through atypical anorexia in my late teens and early 20's. I have felt exactly what this song is saying. I made a suicide attempt at 23, obviously failed... been in psych wards 7 or 8 times now. This song is so emotional for me. I can't help but cry when I Hear it.

Definitely been in Toms shoes with the depression. Not proud of it. But I survived my attempt. Was in a stupid bad place in my head that year. Lost a really good friend of mine to a..... accident. During the man hunt I found him in the river. Anyways, uh then my fiancé at the time leaves me and my mom ended up in the hospital and I lost my job as a Harley tech. Man that was horrible year. But I’m glad I was brought back and man am I glad to be alive. But I’m telling you. God as my witness that was a horrible place to be in my mind. And I hope I never get to that point again.
