I think this song is a beautiful example of why Benmont Trench may well be the single greatest piano player in rock n roll. He plays way less than he knows he's able to here, giving the emotionality of the song room to breathe. Just the sparsest notes and yet they are so well chosen, so lyrical and melodic that they somehow carry all the emotional weight of one of Tom's songs without ever obtruding on or overwhelming anything else thats going on here. I don't know anyone else who ever did this so well

You aren't alone, it just grabs your heart & soul and doesn't let go. Much like alot of his music from 1993-1999, his darker days when divorce, heroin, and depression ruled his life. He didn't like playing the music live, but did on a few occasions like this one.

Gwen, don't be sad, here’s a story for you: I had a rock band in Ukraine 1992-2002 and we played The Beatles & Rolling Stones, we made up our songs, but I always asked the guys: Can I sing two or three songs by Tom Petty? And it was such a pleasure to perform Learnin ’To Fly, Free Fallin’ and Crawlin ’back to you;)

Totally I agree L. Gary ...it is such a beautiful song. Can be playing all day the long! It always sounds great.
