I sat next to Eddie on the school bus through middle school and into high school (78-80). The bus radio was always turned to an AM Pop station during the long boring ride home... we were one of the last stops. Not a day went by that we didn't hear a Tom Petty song. How cool would it have been to turn to him and say, "In about 27 years you'll be on a stage singing this with him."

This is beautiful for so many reasons, but maybe the biggest is that Eddie knows how lucky he is to be standing there, in the middle of that band, in the middle of that song, being trusted to sing it. The look on his face reflects what it feels like to be given an enormous gift that you can't quite believe you've received.

And he could be showing respect? Could be never know...but Tom Petty is gone and we will never hear any new music from him again....a little respect...but what do i know. Tracy Leach. Eddie is not Neil Young’s nephew. He has referenced him as “Uncle Neil” over the years because Young was a mentor to PJ in the mid 90s. Eddie nailed it on this one btw.

They need to keep Narcan on hand around all musicians who are addicted to pills. Prince and Tom Petty may have been saved. It reverses the opiates in your body and can reverse overdoses. They are starting to keep it on ambulances in places that have a high number of drug overdoses.

I sometimes play this on a loop for an hour! I don't mind admitting that the guitar riff often gives me tears due to both my memories and its amazing and timeless melody. Mike and the rest of the guys never lost a step. It is so sad that Tom has been taken from all of us. He endured so much towards the end FOR US, his fans. RIP Tom Petty!!!

His talent for pulling words together to bring so much feeling and passion to lyrics. So happy to be able to sing and dance along. Tom Petty came to Philly so long ago and I can still see him in my minds eye whenever I hear his voice. These two are a perfect duo! It's good to be alive.!!!!!!!!

@nufcedkidyup8627 did I mention that I just started to listen to PJ about six months ago. Accidentally, while I was searching for someone else on KZbin. I see a picture of a young man with a distraught look on his face that matched how I was feeling. I clicked on and Even Flow starts, and I love it! So I search for more and more of their music. Now, I am a proud owner of two cd's and a sticker on my car.

You can see the joy radiating from Eddie Vedder in every frame of this. This is the greatest day of his life. And wouldn’t it be for anyone? Every musician (at least every great one) was a FAN before they started making their own music, and this is clearly the joy of a kid who sang, full volume, along with this song in his bedroom, probably countless times. It is one of the most soul-enriching performances I’ve ever heard/seen. Brilliant.

I go to a methadone clinic 5 times a week. Every morning when i call my medical transport to schedule my ride this song plays while I'm on hold and it is SO ANNOYING. So i came to youtube to listen to a good quality version and found this video. Eddie Vedder has officially made me love this song. I'm blown the hell away. Wow. I also didn't realize how hard of a song it is to sing. Much respect. Rest in peace, Mr. Petty. We love you.

Been there, but didn't resign my self to the clinic for life....it's a way out.....not a lifestyle. I'm a survivor.

Yeah, sure do miss you Petty. And yeah, the waiting is the hardest part........Eddy really is singing well and really was the right choice by Petty for this song.

This is so goddamn great it’s hard to even know what to say, but Mike Campbell is so freaking underrated it’s criminal.

You may be right but I think that's just outside the industry. Among actual musicians, I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who doesn't have *huge* respect for his work, for the way he uses his (incredible!) talent to service the song ... but what do I know? I'm a 47 year old woman from Berlin, Germany who's been a TP fan for 30 years. And Mike Campbell will always be one of my favourite guitar players!

15 years into an already legendary career, and Eddie is still ultra respectful and nervous to be playing with Tom Petty and to sing one of his biggest hits. It's not something that you want to mess up. Well done.
