You forgot another line - “Sometimes you’re happy Sometimes you cry half of me is ocean, half of me is sky” I’ve always took that to mean just as the elements have an affect over time, ocean water and powerful rays of the sun will eventually wear out that barricade. That and her big heart - basically they will both bring down each other’s barriers 😊

What Petty does is to make the extraordinary appear simple and the simple extraordinary. "Heart so big it could crush this town." "Smoked cigarettes and stared at the moon." "Long day livin' in Reseda." "Most things I worry about never happen anyway." All seems so off the cuff and easy .. but try doing it yourself.

I love this version of Walls it's absolutely beautiful. I love the way it's just him singing at first with his guitar and then the rest of the band do their magic. .Mike is terrific on that mandolin. Just to say another thing about Mike and that is he is an absolutely brilliant guitarist. He makes those guitars talk back to him. He is a treasure. I love listening to his guitar solos. Brilliant on Swingin another one of my great favourites. I love it. How I miss you Tom Petty the world is missing a true star. Not just the music but as person. I love your style, your laid back easy going personality and your sense of humour. And your Honesty. When you refused the record label to put up the price of your album and baled out then declared bankruptcy so they couldn't touch you.. Brilliant. That made me laugh but it also made me absolutely adore you all the more because of your integrity. Because you put your fans first. So many would have had no problem at all in upping the price and take the money and run and not give a toss about anyone else. But not you. You are so missed by so many. God has truly plucked a shining star from this earth. Love you Tom Petty. I hope like many others that I meet you on the other side. Your music will keep me going while I'm here.. Enjoy your Heaven Tom. If anyone deserves to be there you do. Miss you and love you always. RIP. 🙏🙏🙏🙏💖💖💖💖🕊🕊🕊👍👍👍🤗Mike you are still with us thank God. Keep playing that guitar boy. You are magic and are still shining. You must have been born with that guitar in your hands. Don't ever let it go. You and Gary Moore RIP. Have to be the best guitarists I have ever heard. Gary God be with him was a genius as well. You remind me a lot of him the way he plays. And that is one of the greatest complements I could ever give you. And he was a lovely person too. Honest and good hearted like Tom was. I think you would have really liked Gary. Another great star plucked from this earth far too soon.. Love them both. God bless them and God bless you and the rest of the Heartbreakers. Tom's family your families and all the fans out there that love and miss Tom so much and love all you boys in the heartbreakers and Mudcrutch as well. Love always Susan 👍💖💖💖❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🕊🕊🕊

You're right, the lyrics do have a deep, personal meaning. Even more this morning as the news of Tom's passing on is slowly sinking in. I grew up in Florida, went to school at UF in Gainesville. Rob McLean I love this song soooooo much. It’s one of my TOP 5 favorite TP songs (I think I have about 35 “top 5” songs of Tom’s😉). Those lyrics are just perfect and beautiful and pure Tom. And no one else can sing them the way he does either. What really also got me about this particular song is the fact that he was asked to write/contribute just ONE song for this movie.....and he watched the movie and liked it so much that he went on to write the entire soundtrack for that movie. Who the heck does that?? Who else has the creativity and talent to do that? Only Tom Petty. I didn’t grow up in FL, but I did grow up with Tom’s music. I remember hearing “Listen to her Heart” back in 1978 or so? I was a high school senior. Still one of my most favorite TP songs. During his lifetime, I hate to admit, I wasn’t one of those absolute super fans. I knew and loved his music though and just always thought he’d be around. Human nature, I guess. Maybe that’s why his passing has gutted me. He WAS always there.....and now he’s not. But his awesome music does live on, and what an amazing legacy it is!
