My dad was a Green Beret and suffered from PTSD. My senior year of high school he got super mad (just like Tom talks about in the first 15min) and he just ended it all…in our kitchen…standing beside the table…3 feet from my mom and siblings. I so wish that he was here today to watch and listen to this episode. Tom and Shawn both hit the head of the nail on this one. Everything they mentioned, I witnessed growing up. We walked on eggshells 24/7 trying to avoid doing anything that would trigger him. Awesome episode. Thank you for raising awareness

But at the time not knowing if he was going there or not was the worst. We heard from him and he said he wasn’t being sent to Somalia. The movie Black Hawk Down still gets to him on a deeper level he may not admit to it. I finished this whole series today. This was probably one of the best interviews on so many different levels that I have ever listened to. I am glad he shared this with us. Some of it reminds me of a friend I lost. He was a federal law enforcement guy, not a military veteran, but he had some PTSD issues that I didn’t understand despite my best efforts to. He didn’t commit suicide, but he slowly killed himself with alcohol. It was very sad, but listening to this, especially Part 3, helped me feel like I have a better understanding of it. Thank you all.

I'm never alone because I have the Lord JESUS CHRIST with me. He will never leave me. We the American people must pray for these men for their salvation, healing, restoration and deliverance from the drugs that make people want to kill themselves. America needs STRONG male leadership who are godly and righteous, but we won't have that if men keep killing themselves. It has to stop with prayer, God's love, the Bible, nutrition and natural medicine even if the Lord JESUS has to walk through a wall and tell each man that HE loves them. "Please don't give up men. We need you!!"

Tom, if you see this I want you to know it means a lot hearing a guy like you talk about ptsd being something you can’t turn off, and something that can come from a variety of sources. I told myself for months that there’s no way I could’ve had post traumatic stress from something that happened to me a year ago because I figured it “wasn’t bad enough”, but I finally sought out professional opinion and now I’m getting help for it

Citizens who have enjoyed their lives because of you and soldiers like Tom Satterly owe you so much. Hi, I’m a 22 year old woman. What advice would you give to a woman that wants to be a Delta Force assaulter? How does the Delta community feel about women joining them? If you had to go to Delta Force selection again, how would you prepare differently? Has a woman ever graduated from the Operators Training Course? I’m 5’8” and 168lbs, is that a good or bad size? What books or workout programs would you recommend to prepare for it?

Thanks again Ryan for actually reading your comments. I remember asking you to get an interview with Tom because I respect him so much as a delta operator. I actually reached out to him for a class project for my masters program at usc and he actually responded willing to help me. Because time didn’t permit it I was never able to interview him and he broke my heart. Oh and FYI Tom was one of the operators on the ground that caught saddam and handed it over to 4ID. That 4 iD unit was my old FA unit. My unit took credit for saddams capture but it was delta that handed him over to us. When Tom said that in an interview before the first thing he remembered was the support unit and giving us credit. He never gave himself or his own guys the glory. That’s what separates him or rob O’Neil. This man is a true professional and down to earth. It’s crazy to know he’s the elite 1% yet he’s not afraid to be vulnerable. Shawn hope u see this, thank you for listening and paying attention to the fans. I promised in a comment before that if Shawn ever got Tom on here I would join and become a Patreon and that I just did

I remember when I recognized my dad had PTSD from Vietnam, it was 1983. It helped explain his behavior, but didn't make it any easier to live on "eggshells". I stayed away as much as I could, finally, after reuniting with a couple of his Navy Swift boat brothers in 2000 he started to get treatment and help. Most know they are broken, but they don't know what to do or how to fix it, so they just drive on doing whatever to extremes: religion, drinking, drugs, abuse, anger, exercise, work... Thanks for the interview.

This is my number one channel! I don't want to hear how anyone talks as if they have experienced everything, that they have knowledge of everything, that they have all the answers, they have guests that tell stories and don't ask or research if the stories are true, that may have celebrities and become enthralled with their guest and fail to ask meaningful and direct questions! I am not saying other channels do any of these now! I've listened to many interviews with their experiences or opinions that have nothing to do with the guest! We want to hear the reason these guests are on the show and relative personal information helps also engage us to help futher gather the complete situation. This channel listens, asks the questions and gives insightful or experienced based appropriate reflection! Ego is fantastic, even appropriate when properly utilized, giving personal connection reinforcing the subject! An opening comes about for many people and share their personal untold story that no one else can get from people! Getting a person to speak about a time that hurts and would never speak about. He welcomes without judgment and guests leave knowing how impactful it was. Thats something most channels fear! This channel is great for just being real!!! I love it for that!

Shawn Ryan, I have been watching you awhile. You are really good at interviewing but continue to improve. I'm a 73 year old retired Critical Care RN of 44 years and a military brat. My dad was active duty until I was 19. He participated in 3 wars(police actions) and received The Legion of Merit. I don't always agree with your opinion but I listen and chew on it and I share your content with my friends, ex coworkers, and anyone else I think needs information. I will say my dad's perception of Vietnam in particular changed over time. I am a flower child, wind child, child of the universe and whose soul is infinite. Conflict majorly with my dad. I have stood up for Vets in the workplace when it was needed. I just try to remind people of concepts and how things are perceived and to walk in another's shoes. Words are important. Thank you Shawn. Stay safe.PAX. Shout out to military dependents and their critters. Military is family.

I worked through the pandemic and I have been having a really hard time dealing with the amount of death I have seen and the traumatic nightmares I have had to watch people go through, on a daily basis during that event and overall for the past 10 years I have been a nurse. The intro to this podcast with Tom really really helped me, along with your other podcasts. Sometimes I feel my trauma is nothing compared to what other people have seen or done.
