The original sales agreement prohibited her from using the name at the new location. She didn't like 'Ruth's Chris Steak House' but it was the only way she could think of keeping some of the brand identity.

My mother (on purpose) commissioned an eight foot tall oil painting portrait of us three kids (the oldest, I was about 25) in which we are full body, life sized posed on an Oriental rug before a piano. It weirds me out to this day to walk into their house and see it, like it is going to be the first picture in a legacy hall of demented ancestral lords of the manor. Like Barnabas on Dark Shadows.

Unfortunately for her, that specific location was the only one that was allowed the designation “Chris’s” steakhouse so she instead opened the new location with both her name (Ruth) and the original name Chris’ to what has now become the popular American steakhouse franchise, Ruths Chris Steakhouse.
