This video lesson covers five fun drum beats that are played on the toms. Unlike most drum beats that are centered around the hi-hats or ride-cymbal, these grooves are built around tom-tom patterns. They aren't too difficult to play, and work well in a wide range of playing styles.

I remember when I first started playing the drums, I used to think these grooves were too difficult for me to learn. I look back at these grooves and I'm sure I am capable of performing every single one! Thanks Jared!

Your lessons are put together really nice. I've been playing for 20 years (just for fun not professionally), and working on foundation rudiments is important. But, the manner you present things is straightforward and easy for a beginner to novice drummer to understand. Great learning resource.

A suggestion, unless you really want the pattern, is to in the 3rd comp change the 2 strokes on the floor tom on the "and a" in the 3rd beat to double strokes. Ie. instead of on beat 3 going R L rack tom R L floor tom and then R on the snare, you go R L rack tom R R floor tom L snare. That will make it alot easier to hit the snare. Though practicing both is good, but I probably would have used the double stroke in a real situation.

Jared wrote down key points to touch on when planning each video lesson, however there is no giant screen with words printed on it if that is what you are thinking. Jared just looked over the main points and went from there. It turned out very well actually. -FreeDrumLessons-

first of all, ebony pinstripes are, according to me, one of the worst head for upper toms ( but a good esthetic for the under tom ) second, the guy has coated heads... makes a huge difference ( i recommend Remo coated ambassador ), put some with e-rings from evans to cut some of the vibration and you should get a closer and softer sound. hope this will help

Electric sets are great and perfect for beginners. Virtually no noise if you wear headphones, don't have to change the heads, easier on the sticks, and you can customise your sound just by changing the settings instead of buying new gear. I would recommend an electric kit to someone in your position.

CrashJunkie5150 I kinda disagree about them being great for beginners, just because the feel is not quite the same (especially if you're spending beginner money).

i could agree with you for tab format, but that gives u disadvantages in triplets and things of that nature(odd timing). traditional sheet music format, however, is much more challenging to read. it really is much more than just knowing the lines. i get the feeling u are a piano/guitar player and at best a beginning drummer, b/c the more complex stuff isn't so much of a walk in the park to read.
