This gentleman is simply teaching how to apply common sense and the laws of physics to the golf swing. I regret to hear he passed away so long ago. He was certainly ahead of his time. This is the approach used to successfully teach how to swing a golf club nowadays, by those instructors who have evolved in their teaching methods. I am very glad I found this video on KZbin.

The best teacher and philosophy in golf by far. Just stop wasting your time follow these steps no gimmicks no bullshit no and your game will get better. The only time my life I was 1 handicap was after I watch this guy and I was young enough to practice.

A gem of a video...all the new age instructors that have proliferated with the advent of internet DO NOT know what they are talking about....they have reach but no experience.

This guy explains the swing ever so simply which proves that the golf swing can be easy to learn and replicate without having to have loads of expensive lessons from teachers who are bombarding you with all kinds of information to overcompilicate the golf swing when in fact it's a piece of cake the way Tom explains and shows.

Tom gave me the whole chapter series video when I left his studio in Myrtle Beach on October 22, 1993. I sent a copy of the video to Lynn Blake and his IT guys put the video in the chapter series you're watching now. The golf swing that Tom is teaching in this video series is really close to Zach Johnson's golf swing. Zach Johnson's swing coach Mike Bender taught the golf swing much like Tommy demonstrates in these videos. If you know the golfing machine this is a Automatic Snap Release with the RIght and Left Forearms bringing the club to the release point. This is not the only way Tommy demonstrated the Golf Swing per the golfing machine. Study component number 20.

Hi David, You had sent me some great TT DVD’s many years ago and I still have them. How would you say these Aussie tapes differ from the Dietrich tapes in terms of Tom’s swing theories? Thx!

His demonstration of moving the right shoulder gem is something many "stars" of You tube fail to tell.. they all show drills fof sliding arms up and down the thighs to show the pivot but NEVER tell us how this works with a club?! But the right shoulder down drill is brilliant..it shows how the drill can be transferred to when one does the actual swings.

I play off 8 but have always had a tendency to reverse pivot on the backswing and so have too much weight back at impact. The advice about your head weighing 18lbs and needs to start over the right need has made a huge difference. I think of my fact as over my right knee at address now. My balance and coil is so much better on the backswing.

I wish we had heard & seen these wonderful explanations & video footage in my earlier days. ( my first visit to USA was in 1989 whilst a Pro with Taylor Made) I went to Greenleaf , Florida ( leadbetter was starting out & had a few players ) the Intention being to gather info on teaching improvement & playing skills whilst gaining product knowledge & development of our Brand of metal woods Taylor Made..

With all due respect, when you look at this video, when you move down your right shoulder as trigger, the left shoulder goes up.. I will test this motion but I feel that I will not get good contact with the ball and not compression. (It is like hanging back problem). Having said that I had nice extended arms through the forward swing in the early years of golf lessons which I do have hard time to get onto this status with extended arms...I think this motion with tilting the right shoulder may help.....Is this motion also helpful for all clubs? I would be happy to hear if you or anyone could please comment. Thanks and all the best.

Interesting that Tommy throws the ball towards the pitcher not the first base, as he advises Lee Deitrick in the small video series from '92 🤔

HHHWLH, did you try the drill he demonstrated? With the club behind your back? I was amazed at how the lowering of the right shoulder sent my left hip back towards it's original position and with no deliberate intention of my own. Much appreciation to Lynnblakegolf for posting Tom's clips, these posts give us all an opportunity to share in Tom's wonderful knowledge and teaching. Wish I could have met the man in person.

Mr. Tomasello, when you explain to "simply drop/lower your right shoulder" starting the downswing, do you literally mean a vertical drop from where it is (right shoulder) without any forward or lateral move of the right shoulder? Can you elaborate? When I drop it down, my hips move as you explain but I feel like the club head will never get to the ball and feel as if my left should moves upwards immediately.

I studied with Tommy in October of 1993, the video series you're watching was given to me as I left Tommy's studio in South Myrtle Beach, SC at the old Deer Track golf course (I gave a copy to Lynn Blake). Dropping the right shoulder in this video series is part of the stick drill that Tommy uses to demonstrate the correct moves for the pivot especially the downswing. However, if you read the golfing machine section number 20 triggering. There is a method of lowering the right shoulder to start the downswing per 10-20-C Shoulder Turn Throw. This is the downswing method used by Tom Tomasello students Jodie Mudd and LPGA major champion Sally Little. You can also find this approach in Gary McCords video "Gary McCord clinic on Mac O'Grady and the MORAD Project". If you think this video series is awesome I have over 20 hours video series of Tom Tomasello giving a 5 day school where he teaches the whole golfing machine including the 5 primary methods of starting the downswing through the triggering approach. One of the approaches is mainly for putting but the remaining 4 methods which most instructors don't teach have been used to win some the top tournaments including the Masters and British Open, the Players Championship, and the Tour Championship and LPGA Du Maurier Classic. Sally Little won the Du Maurier in 1988 after studying with Tommy. The swinging approach in this video series won the 2007 Masters and the 2015 British Open.

All the greatest players in golf have led the downswing with their left leg. If the hips lead the swing that causes the golfer to have to make an extra move with his legs, and that makes for an inefficient swing. I wouldn't do this! Check the lower body out in all the great players from Jones through Woods. You'll see the front let leading the swing toward the ball.
