Saw Tom Waits with my late wife Barbara, we’ve had been to many many concerts, Tom Waits was by far the Best show we had ever seen. It’s was at The Edinburgh Playhouse in a Victorian 3000 seat Theatre , plush velvet seats , Opera glasses at 50 pence to hire , ( Glasses ) were in the seat in front of you. Tow came on 8:35 pm left the stage 11:10pm . It’s was. filmed. The stage was lit in a sepia light,Chrome Yellow, Emerald Green, Ruby Red. Tom told little story’s between songs, every time he stamped his foot a cloud of dust would rise beneath his feet. Wonderful. 😊🏴☠️

This Man is an absolute rare diamond 💎 My greatest regret is I never had the chance to see him perform live. It's top of my bucket list. Unfortunately I fear he's finished with touring. I'm still living in hope.

Same here! One of my buddies got to see him in Boston on the Mule Variations tour. I remain jealous. LOL
@chocolatejesus38062 жыл бұрын
@@BuzzcutGtr wow that would have been amazing! As you can probably tell from my name, Mule Variations is one of my favorite Waits albums. I mean, I love them all for different reasons, but Mule hit me at a pivotal moment in my life. Tell your friend I'm now ALSO jealous of his experience 😆

Seen him like 30 years ago during a French tour. Can't remember for which album. He was not that well-known at the time here, so as it was in a king off theater "à l'italienne" I was sitting first row in a really comfortable armchair with my heels on the stage ... needless to say it is my best ever concert. A big hello to TOM !!! Waiting for the next album if ever it happens sometime. Vincent.

@@chocolatejesus3806 "I love them all for different reasons" Indeed - Small Change is a very different album than Mule Variations (agreed - killer album!), is a very different album from Bone Machine, etc. The one that hit me like that is Rain Dogs, but Nighthawks and Blue Valentine are bloody close contenders. And I want "Bad Liver...." played at my funeral. 😊

Saw him twice, in Dublin and Berlin on his European tours. I still remember both concerts vividly. And the way the audience reacted to Tom. It took a long time to get the concert started when he entered the stage. We, the audience just went absolutely nuts with love and screaming and applauding.

Like Dylan and Randy Newman, Tom's music draws from deep American folk roots. The difference is that Tom never seemed to share Dylan's ice-cold aloofness or the vein of underlying menace and mean-spiritedness that runs through Newman's music. By contrast, Tom always struck me as heartfelt, empathetic, even a little sentimental, and always achingly funny. Tom Traubert's Blues is one of the funniest songs ever written...and yet one that can make you cry at the same time. That takes real genius. I sincerely hope Mr. Waits realizes how much his work is appreciated.

What a "cool" father! As the "cat" who penned, "I Don't Wanna Grow Up" - and lover of roadside, cast off furniture, (like me, SO hard to explain to spouse and friends the timeless appeal of such ephemera- NOT recycling- unless you mean, recycling somebody's essence). How does such a guy like Tom "discipline" a child?! I dunno what I mean to say? I just "lurf" this man SO much, cuz he will always lead you down the right back alley- imagine you are 4 and he's reading you a bedtime story! Yeah...Namaste

Tommy at his 'Beat-Poet' best. I first came across his particular brand of special as an actor in the movie 'The Ballad of Buster Scruggs', and then in his incomparable song 'I hope that I don't fall in love with you'. When I was still playing pubs that was my standard set finisher. There's a certain raw honesty about anything he performs that at once sums up all the real emotion you can bear to handle. Its like overdoing the Tobasco on pizza; it hurts so good but you can't stop eating more. Tom Waits has taught me more about the blues than any amount of practice ever could. Absolutely essential.

This just uploaded? It just hit my suggested, the comments are all “7 seconds ago”, “20 seconds ago”…. Feels like when I come down the stairs at 11 something to wait for the L train, and the train is just arriving. Just for me. Thanks.
@chocolatejesus38062 жыл бұрын
That's funny you should mention a train. My journey with Tom Waits has always centered around the train narrative. With "Train Song" or his original version of "Downtown train" or when he sang "I lived on nothin' but dreams and train smoke" in Pony. For me Tom Waits and trains are Synonymous. Dressing like a Hobo in the 70's probably helped that image also😝
