Outstanding inspection by both, E6 & Tomb Guard, funny story, while station @ Ft. Bragg, we received one of these Old Guard troops on a transfer to a line puppy unit, within the 82nd ABN, he was making all of the platoon & squad look bad, when it came to uniform maintenance, we had to take his robot ass too Fayetteville, Hay Street, Ricks Lounge Strip club, for a re-programming exercise, he fell right in with the rest of us afterwards. He stopped shinning his jungle boots, & for his gear, well as an 11B, the fox holes took care of any other spit n shine issues. Gr8 job @ the Old Guard!!!!

Watch when the Guard gives the Officer the rifle, the guard racks the chamber open while handing it off, if the rifle was loaded, it would have ejected a live round and the Officer would be able to see if there was another round in the magazine. The Officer's first action when he receives the rifle is to close the bolt, because the weapon was proven to be clear. Firearms have rules like everything else, you don't even inspect a loaded gun, much less in the way they do.

I’m no expert myself, but I believe he’s pulling back the bolt so that the officer can inspect the chamber on the inside. He isnt being interrupted per se, but its so well rehearsed that the gap between the guard making his weapon ready for inspection and the officer taking the weapon to inspect it is 0.1 seconds

So what happens when they have to do maintenance on the area right beside the tomb? Do the guards keep perimeter or do they expand it? It'd be pretty hard maintaining the same perimeter with a few JCB, caterpillars and cement mixers blocking your path.
