I would have liked a little more thoughts into the actual scenes of this episode, but I guess TurtleNecks and Horror is the over-all theme of the month!. Glad Tom liked the final scene between Clark & Chloe because it is beautiful. It totally highlights their friendship in a bigger light. The music in the last scene is extraordinary. I know Al and Miles have said that Whitney is a thankless character, but with what Eric Johnson brought to role he helped to bring Whitney some gravitas. Like, his speech about not wanting to become another "remember him," for the viewer you do kind of feel for him. Not to mention, Eric brought some great emotion to Whitney when his father is sick and winds up dying. So while Whitney is that thankless character type, Eric really brought him to life in such a way that he's a fairly memorable character.

Good podcast, guys! ❤ I really appreciate the humor whether it's a great episode or not! Thank you. I have to say, Allison did a fantastic job in this episode. I rewatched this Smallville episode right before this podcast, and there were parts that I really liked ...the horror aspects, Clark's discussion with Chloe at the Daily Planet near the end, Martha and Clark's conversation about her taking on Jonathan's Senate seat, and of course Chloe's meeting her mom at the end (I actually teared up watching that - there is a history of mental illness on both sides of my family, and 2 of my mom's uncles had to be institutionalized.) So, it was a tad dark, but I still liked aspects of this episode. They can't be all 3 rose winners in a 22 episode season. I give it 1/2 🌹 or 1🌹. Anyhow, you guys have to make a Lois T-shirt at some point!! I would buy that in a heartbeat. She says so many funny things during the series... I have a suggestion, but you haven't gotten to that episode yet. LOL. Or, you could call it Lois-isms, then have a bunch of quotes. 😅 I watched all the way through you guys reading all the top tier Patrons, and I was sad that my name wasn't up there...☹️ But then again, I just joined the other day because of Randy B. The only saving graces of this episode were Clark being written well and Allison Mack. At the time Allison was at the peak of her acting prowess and she basically carries this entire episode, whether she's playing Chloe or Gretchen. And she especially does an excellent job of dropping the facade of snarky Chloe to portray vulnerability. Especially in that last touching scene. I keep saying that Allison will and should never be forgiven for her crimes, but I always give her her due acting wise. She was a powerhouse in season 5. And yes, she looked gorgeous once again in season 5.

just introduced my little nephew to Superman The Movie, brought back so many memories of watching it myself as a 5yr old ❤️😊 but now seeing it as an adult for the 1st time in over a dozen yrs, it really makes me appreciate Smallville for the depth and nuances every storyline and character development had. Christopher Reeve's performance as Superman (really he plays 3 characters) was PERFECTION. but the movie franchise as a whole are very episodic and don't explore any other characters in depth and often times reduces them to basic caricature. Lois goes from being annoyed and dismissive of Clark in one second, and immediately w out taking a beat when she learns he's Superman the 1st words out of her mouth are "I'm in love w you" 🤦♀️ maybe I'm spoiled living in a post Me-Too reality where female characters are written better in general, and yes I get that the ridiculous honeymoon undercover sequence was all Lester and wreaked of the Salkinds' cheap cash grab mentality, but shit it really does a disservice to Lois and Clark and Superman 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️ Zod is a very complex character, and Terence Stamp is a powerhouse yet he is completely underutilized and Zod gets reduced to a whiny one-note character who somehow is less interesting than Ursula. Smallville gives Zod so many layers and subtle notes. And does that w EVERY character! I will always have a special place in my heart for The Movie, but so glad for Smallville ❤
@Costas222 ай бұрын
The Movie will always be the benchmark of superhero movies for me. I've liked many since then, including Snyder's Man Of Steel, but Superman is just iconic as the first to be made on such grand scale. That's why we tend to overlook some of its flaws. But to this day it's hard to find a better score than John Williams' (especially for that opening shot on Krypton) and it's impossible to find a better Superman than Reeve. I even liked the 3-hour cut they released a few years ago. Nothing feels like a waste.
@asyouwish36362 ай бұрын
@@Costas22 omg YESSS. how about that I decided to watch 3 after my nephew went to bed (when, i always pretend 3 and 4 don't exist lol), haven't seen it since the 90s, it actually wasn't as godawful as I was bracing for! don't get me wrong it was freaking ridiculous in general lol (how about the poor man's Lex Luthor, the sister was pointless and whatever TF that Marilyn Monroe cheap knock off was supposed to be, but def was a poor man's Miss Tesmacher) way too complicated felt like they were trying to make 3 movies in one and the VFX were complete garbage, and no offense to the brilliant Richard Pryor (could watch his movies all day!) but he had no business being in this. it was more like a Pryor movie w a Superman cameo 😅. . that being said, he did a great job and all his scenes were grounded and not outlandish (despite the painful comedic attempts by literally everything and everyone esp the 3 other villains, but Pryor's humor landed for me). Bad Superman was interesting (esp when he's in the bar destroying bottles w the nuts!) The junkyard scene was well done (few visual glitches here/there) but mostly they used practical FX and really appreciated the dynamic between the bad Superman vs the good Clark Kent. I know original drafts of the script included Brainiac, I kinda feel like that's where they were going w this! like, Gus invents Earth's version of a brain interactive construct (although it's possible that I'm giving it way too much credit, cuz the Salkinds truly didn't know/appreciate the content. it's possible that it's just a plagiarized coincidence lol). and I kinda liked they explored a little of "what could have been" w Lana - although that was extremely anticlimactic lol he gives her a gigantic diamond, and a job to move to metropolis, and they aren't dating or engaged now? huh? but for me, I enjoyed them now cuz I took what I know from Smallville and applied it to these, and it really enriched my experience. like. .if you ignore the VFX execution, and look at it as more representative than literal (ie: when Superman goes into the molecular chamber to give up his powers and he's striped down to his bones and rebuilt) or how about now that I know so much about Kryptonite from the Smallville show it makes so much more sense in The Movies! or now, I get why he chose to have Lois forget she knows (putting the whole consent issue aside lol) but basically everything Smallville's Clark felt about Lana over 6 seasons (till she knew) was poured into the short experience The Movie Clark had w Lois and he makes that decision after seeing how much pain Lois is in. another reason I love Smallville's Lois so much - she was just as tough as every Lois but so much stronger, she didn't fall to pieces once she knew who Clark was. so yeah, watching these movies but pretending they are all part of the collective really makes up for the bad production elements lol
@Costas222 ай бұрын
@@asyouwish3636 Absolutely. Only IV is so bad that you can't overlook the cheap production and enjoy the story or even Reeve in the role. The weird thing with finding out all this drama behind the scenes is that it changes your enjoyment. For example as a kid I LOVED Superman 2. But when you find out about the Donner Cut, the 2 versions, Lester's changes, etc, it shifts your perception. I still like it, but I can't help but feel that Donner's less campy style is missing after a while. And I can't enjoy the Donner Cut because it's visibly uncomplete. Superman 3 was the opposite.Didn''t like it as a kid, but after watching Smallville and seeing more of Clark on Red K and witnessing how great Annette is, I realized that there were positives out of that movie. Plus, I've always been a Richard Pryor fan. I hear you about Lois. Margot was a sweetheart and maybe "too nice" for the role. Even the scene in the Donner Cut with the gun...I just don't buy it. Her Lois version could be challenged by other women for Clark's affection and it wouldn't feel a stretch. Whether it was Lana or the Warfield heiress in Superman 4. But when you see Teri Hatcher as Lois, you just know straight away Clark can't fall for anyone else. She has an inner strength to her. With Erica's it would have been the same, had they not spent 7 years of Clark only having eyes for Lana.
@silver2therescue12 ай бұрын
Season 10 Episode 6 Harvest is kinda like Michael's idea come to think of it. Not exactly but it does have similar elements to that. Clark being surrounded by blue kryptonite and being unable to stop this whole town of killers who kill someone every year. It's kinda similar to Michael's idea.

🌹1.75 it's a well done ep, glad Tom has a nice shout out to the DP, the lighting was excellent! appreciate that the Director chose to take the story seriously where the spirit possession could have easily been absurd or campy. such a violation, to be traumatized and murdered by that sociopath. very disturbing 😬 I agree w Tom, that dr was creepy! I was expecting him to be the villain or connected somehow. I'm guessing Lois is related to Chloe's dad thru her mother (assuming she wouldn't know too much from that side of family after her mother died and then moved around so much by her father). maybe her mother and Chloe's father were siblings? cuz if she was related to Chloe's mother than she would have known her aunt was institutionalized. I get that I have the advantage of being an adult and audience member, so maybe it's not fair to say WTF Lana getting Lex involved when it's 100% not any of his business, and really don't love the only thing she could respond to Clark is she doesn't know how to talk to him anymore? 🤦♀️ he just had a major loss a few weeks ago. he doesn't owe her explanations, esp when it comes down to protecting someone he thinks needs help. I mean she's still a teenager so I can't expect her to have enough life experience to try to work on their problems in a grown up way, but she is old enough to know that going to Lex instead of Clark was totally problematic and inappropriate. and she certainly knows how Clark feels about Lex, so it kinda feels almost a bit attention seeking too. Not to mention she doesn't seem to care (or know better?) that of course Lex's solution would be to ship Chloe to Bellerive, a place that's one step above Arkam Asylum! SMH Tom's performance was great in this, very nuanced! should have been an opportunity for Alison to shine but her performance was a bit uneven: she went a too heavy in some scenes and in others was a bit flat, reminiscent of her in S8-10 where she played Chloe apathetic at times. Good choices by Erica, does Michael prefer if she's hysterical? lol Lois is very capable and adaptable, lives in Smallville this isn't her 1st rodeo w dark/creepy. Erica played her perfect! Was a little bit of a filler ep, but was a higher quality so you don't really feel that it's a filler. plus it does push forward some important threads: Martha/Lionel interaction and now she's decided to take Jonathan's seat, Lana trusts Lex blindly at this point and has mostly given up on Clark, Chloe's sub plot w her mother and laying down groundwork for her fear of mental illness. also liked that it had a horror-genre tone but still felt grounded in Smallville 👏

Ok first, the actors’ performances in this episode need to be more appreciated. Allison really did a great job along with the other actors. Second, what is Rosenbaum’s problem with Lois? He’s always bashing her commentary and actions. She is supposed to have a quick-witted nature, that’s what makes her so likable. Also she is super badass for throwing that knife at the psychopath. But of course that gets overlooked, because once again, female power is such a threat 🙄.

Agree. Maybe wrong but i think it is because of the relationship she has with Clark. As each season goes by they get closer while his character and Clark drift apart. He's jealous I think. I don't think it helps that he had like zero scenes with her. He doesn't like Chloe either. The only female character he likes is Lana and probably Martha.

Michael asks why people in Smallville are so cool and collected when they see dead bodies. Well, if you'd been encountering psychotic mutant murderers since you were in high school, I don't think seeing another dead body would have as much of an impact on you. Reminds me of a conversation I once had with a woman who bumped into Michael Rosenbaum at a single's bar. She said, and I quote, I was looking around the bar and spotted him looking at me. I realized I may have usually been freaked out, but with all the terrifying sights I'd encountered that day, his eyes were a welcomed change.

I think everyone who is capable should visit Italy at least once in their life. Lived there for 4 years while I was in the Navy and Rome was just one of many wonderful places there.

To Michael and Tom, watching these episodes for the first time. Hang tight in season 6 Chloe's mother makes a bigger appearance and is portrayed by the wonderful, amazing Lynda Carter (Wonder woman). I'm sure you both remember as you both had scenes with her. It's a great episode, all round. Chloe's character grows. Lex is awesome, Lynda is awesome.

If I had a Smallville horror movie idea. I would have Clark, Chloe and Lois investigate a ghost ship and put Clark up against a supernatural threat.
