*Changed my life. I will never eat the same ever again. "Unless you physically trip and your face lands in a box **weightlose.fitness** of donuts, there is no such thing as a 'slip'." Get that mind set and you'll win again and again.*

Disagree, just like alcohol, sometimes willpower isn't enough to simply overcome. If you work and they're constantly bringing pizza, pasteries, cakes, donuts every day, it's very hard to not want it every day. and sure 99/100 days you can say no, but eventually exposure can win. If you're using all your willpower to say no to certain things, then you will loose will power else where. Will power is a finite resource. willpower is connected to a limited reserve of mental energy, and once we run out of that energy, we're more likely to lose self-control.

I'm 35, and have been severely depressed and suicidal since I was 8 years old. Bunch of different meds and different Psychs and Dr's. I am currently a service technician so I am always on the road and the temptation of stopping at places to stop and grab something is incredible. I was drinking 3-4 Nos's a day and eating garbage for 2 years straight. I got to a point I said enough and cut out the sugars and carbs and have not looked back since. I have been doing Keto for about 9 months now and I can say it single handedly changed my life. First time I can remember not feeling like death was a great option. And I'm also proud to say I have been completely med free for 2 months (after carefully weaning myself off for the last 2 months or so prior). I feel great!

At 60 years old, I lost weight from 250 pounds down to 180 pounds and 12 inches off my waistline in 6 months with keto and one hour per day casual walking. I also found the calmness with Stoic principles of Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius. @@healingandgrowth-infp4677 Without being judgmental to you, why does your own personal (extremely short) experience lead you to belittle a diet that has huge results behind it? I do sympathize with your situation but have to suggest that perhaps there is something you're eating or doing, might be incorrect or clashing with the diet. I am no fan of "Keto" true believers (I struggle with any "true believers") but after 8 weeks of a Keto/paleo diet with intermittent fasting (not eating after dinner till 1pm) as per the youtube videos of Dr Stan Ekberg, I have lost 9 Kgs and am slimmer than I have been in 12+ years. However, as a motocross racer (MX) I have struggled with energy until about 8 weeks in when suddenly my mind cleared and I have heaps of energy. I'm still to figure out how to store or create the energy required for high intensity MX racing but that will come after I get to my goal weight (a loss of around 17 Kg's). Insulin resistance is a big thing, if you look into that it might help you work out how and why your work so far hasn't achieved what you wanted. Anyway, best of luck. I can say that it really has worked for me and another work colleague who has lost 14 Kg's in about 12 weeks. All without any excercise.

I was on a whole foods plant based HIGH CARB diet for about five years because I thought it would prevent heart disease. Instead, I gained 40 pounds, had to start taking PPI's for acid reflux and EoE, and eventually started taking duloxetine for anxiety. About 6 months ago, I decided to make a change. I ditched the grains, started eating more animal proteins, and ate more sweet potatoes instead of white or red potatoes. My acid reflux went away, I got off all medications, and my stomach began slowly healing itself. I feel a little better every day. No weight loss yet, but I'm still healing!

I have a very similar story, but it came after I suffered a stomach ulcer after a very stressful semester of law school. Like you, I was told that a "whole, natural" diet of vegetables and whole grains was the answer. But, my acid reflux persisted. I had days where my heartburn was so bad that I thought I was having a heart attack. I chalked it up to anxiety and it being a mental issue. However, one day I randomly stumbled upon a video by Dr. Ken Berry where he said that if you eliminate carbs, your acid reflux goes away. Figuring I had nothing left to lose, I went down from 300 carbs a day to about 90-130 carbs a day. After 10 days, my acid reflux literally went away. The center of my chest hasn't hurt one time either. It's insane how we can live so long thinking we're bound to a miserable fate, and then one day randomly we find out that everything can be changed. That's literally what happened to me!

I find it fascinating how so many are sharing their life changing results from the effects of Keto. I personally was on the fence but decided to give it a try. Since I started I have lost over 12lbs and I was overly obese I was maybe 20lbs overweight. The one interesting thing I did notice was how when I jogged my sciatica no longer flared. Then if I decided to cheat and go carb crazy that day my sciatica would kill me. When I went back on Keto no pain. So I assume it’s due to inflammation but whatever it is what I feel is real.

@@keithsmith3118 But junk food IS mostly what creates problems like diabetes, overweight etc because 1. sugar enters the blood too fast 2. and it cant get out because the fat in junk food(which people forget about) blocks insulin receptor cells from taking sugar out of the blood. I've been doing keto for 2 and 1/2 years. I started because I wanted to lose a little weight but I've stuck with it and intend to stick with it for the rest of my life because I've never felt better. I feel physically and mentally energetic, clear, and alive in a way that I haven't before. I fell off the wagon twice for about a month or two and went back to eating regular food and felt foggy, lethargic, anxious and bloated. I realized I could never go back to that full time again. It's keto for life for me. It's just a no-brainer I feel so amazing and I eat such delicious food it's not a hard diet to stick to now that how to cook and eat this way has become second nature.

I'm still experiencing a bit of the Keto flu every now and then but the pros are outweighing the cons by far. The brain is mostly fat so building a brain with a fat based diet makes sense. EFAs lines the myelin sheath. When you get holes in it MS happens. Other mental illnesses can be helped with EFAs. Omega 6 is more important than omega 3. A teaspoon or 2 of cold pressed sunflower tastes great and is loaded with omega 6. Flax oil for omega 3, about 1/2 tsp. Not everyone needs to go keto, if they are aware of their carb intake, remain 100g per day and lower and eat clean and healthy fats too. But our sedentary lives, constant snacking and processed foods, plus bad advice about eating grains, bread, cereals and so on, has wrecked my metabolism and my husband’s. Thankfully we found this before insulin resistance turned into T2D and we are healthier now than the last 2 decades. I wish I hadn’t relied on the food pyramid for structure in my diet. That’s what caused the weight gain, endless hunger, insulin resistance. I was doing research to help my T2D brother. The best interviews I have ever seen. About the "kind word", Keto is lifting me and my wife right up out of darkness, and saving our lives. . Mainstream medical was killing us, some permanent damage is the permanent price for it. We have bought quite a lot of time now. Vitality is back, thanks to Keto.

So often, my attention is interrupted by questions I have regarding something a guest said, resulting in me dismissing the rest. You ask right when I ask and it helps me to stay engaged. Thanks.

Really liked the guys ability to communicate his knowledge and wisdom, it just seems to be a really nice dude, he has a kind and honest vibe, interested in how keto can reduce anxiety and inflammation. Like the way he was interviewed, professional and engaged. So glad I took the time to listen to this postcast. I'll ditch the bread during week, everything else in my diet is pretty good, I'm a fan of good amount of protein & veggies with homemade yoghurt and kimchi. But I really struggle to give up chocolate and artificial sweeteners, at age 59 I'm trying to do a little bit of exercise each day consistently as well as walk. Work is very fighting demanding of energy and time, I live alone and don't have that many positive connections so that important part is not as easy to make happen living in a city believe it or not. I'm so tired after work I can't bear to go to any kind of group or gathering. The trick is to stay positive love yourself and be kind to others 💗

I am 3 weeks into keto, and let me tell u, I already sleep so much better. My energy is very low though. Hope that will change soon. And I totally agree. We are ALL human, different, but we all can make mistakes. That s why I don t like to talk too much about being right or wrong in extreme ways. I prefer open wisdoms, and talk about until now we found out that this is so and so, but science, and also non science, should be open to adapt, improve the improved and accept that life is not a black or white, wrong right experience, Yes some things are really red lines, those are to name, as very wrong, and there s such a right things, that should be kept forever, as they have brought us to today. But all the rest should be about improving the improved. I think. Interesting interview. Wow

I ate what they told me was healthy and it gave me type 2 diabetes. Then I did the diet they recommended for diabetes for 2 years and my blood sugar never once when normal. So I started a low carb/keto diet and my blood sugar has now been normal for a whole year. My hearing is better, my eyesight is better (lowered my sight prescription twice), my skin now heals properly, it is easier to lose weight, and I have more energy, less headaches or brain fog and improved memory. No more than 100g of net carb a day is vital, 50g or below for sustain weight loss.

I didn't need no Keto diet, that diet may cause some possible problems like liver, kidney and heart issues.....My story.....I'm a 63 year old man. I was 31% body fat, a BMI of 29..depressed and got out of breath quickly. My doc said I needed to change, or else..so, I first cut out sugar. When that happened, my depression virtually vanished...THAT is the best thing a person can do. I sweeten using Stevia, a healthy substitute. I upped my green intake a LOT, slowed WAY down on carbs, especially breads and most pastas. It's ok to indulge once in a while..Rice is OK, as long as the glycemic load is low, like basmati (medium) but black or wild rice is best. Very high in anti-oxidants.I made sure to check glycemic LOADS of foods, not the number. I QUIT DRINKING BEER, high in carbs and sugars....red wine is good for you I eat more plant based protein but still eat fish and chicken, hardly any red meat. I started weight training and I workout about 5 hours a week and moderate cardio. Lots of brisk walking. So, after about a year and a half, I have a BMI of 23.5 and a body fat % of 14, and I look REAL good...Like I said, the BEST thing is to quit sugar. That was a game changer for me.

I am 52 and I fell into depression eating crap like donuts and breads, I got overweight and got more depressed then last September I realised how fat I got. I got onto Keto just before Christmas. I have lost weight, I am coming out of depression I have lots of energy and I have never experienced such mental clarity as I have since Keto and increasing MCT oil intake. Although I miss bread now and then, I have no interest in sweets any more and I do not crave sugar. Since I have increased my Apple Cider Vinegar and Zinc I have lost more

Tom, I love your interview style. It's such a treat searching for a person and seeing you've interviewed them. Whether it's leadership skills or health and nutrition, I'm a huge fan. Keep it up. PS a 5 day fast seems daunting for me. Though I haven't going with 2 or 3 24 hour fasts a year for a while. I've never thought if extending it. I did a 24 hour one just today. Maybe I'll push for 2 days in a few weeks.

I was a 120 kg insulin dependent type 2 diabetic and followed the instructions of my doctor and dietitian and just seemed to get worse, searching KZbin for an answer I found the Keto diet, lost 22kg to date and no longer require insulin and my sugar levels are mid normal every day, they were 22 when I started and are now between 5 and 7 every day. More people need to know that the diets our doctors are prescribing are floored.

I discovered I was lactose intolerant and every time I ate bread I felt like it didnt digest all the way...i felt terrible and I love bread...so I went no wheat products i.e gluten free. After a month of not eating wheat products my lactose intolerance was reversed. I had a milkshake from cold stones and I was fine. I use to drink soda, sweet ice tea etc...and everytime I did I would get bloated, I had a soda gut and I was addicted to soda. I didnt care so much for sweets and candy or cakes just soda. So I gave up soda and felt weak and hungry... all this was before I ever heard of keto diet. Now that I have I can manage my no wheat/carb no sugar way of eating and it's much easier...I never was one to count calories or measure what I eat....who has time? But mainly I eat what I want minus carbs and sugar and I fast intermittently... l can see my soda gut disappear and I have more energy. I never hand energy to lift weights before but now I do...keto is not a diet it's just how man ate for thousands of years. Think about it...our ancestors didnt eat sugar or refined carbs....they ate veggies grains (whole non gmo) meat( grass fed free roaming) eggs etc they ate real food. Go to any supermarket and besides the meat, fish and fresh greens sections(to some extent).....the rest of supermarket is just processed refined junk that's keeping us sick or killing us slowly
