Excellent video, very informative. One thing to remember about side imaging is that when you set it for distance left and right that distance has to include the depth of the water from transducer to bottom as well. So when they say side imaging covers say 125ft, that includes the depth of the water you are in. In 25 ft of water, it would only cover 100ft either side. Side imaging goes straight down to the bottom, then fans out.

Tom-. Thanks for sharing your awesome knowledge about walleye fishing and use of electronics. I watched this video and hit several famous walleye lakes in MN. I saw images on my Hummingbird Helix just like you showed. Hit the spot lock, pitched a leech on a slip bobber and boom- walleye hooked up! This happened repeatedly until I knew just what to look for! This approach improved my walleye fishing immensely.

Tom, I have been following you now for about 3 weeks. Your information highway is a super 4 laner. Enjoy all your information. Warning to the Lindners, they could be in trouble. You are doing a bang up job on providing a lot of us novice and experienced fisher dudes with better and more informative ways to set up Sonar units, types of bait, Just covering everything under the sun and replying to a lot of requests for info. If I could offer one little bit of info, I know it is very difficult to prevent the shadowing on the electronic units and it's darn difficult to find these areas going the right direction, is it possible to get a shade, umbrella, something which would take the glare off the screens. Thank you very much for all your great effort you put into educating us fisher dudes.

In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens kzbin.infoUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.

Tom: Great videos and it is a privilege to watch them. Noticed that you had your side imaging set at 80' for each side of the boat. In 20' of water wouldn't that equate to a true range of 60' on each side of the boat that is actual side imaging? As the water shallows your side imaging comes closer to 80'. This is how it was explained to me by a couple of other fishing experts. Thanks again for the great weekly or more frequent content!

Don't much comment on videos, but for this one thanks for this , very informative on how to combine the the lot together to get better results when targeting, should work even better using this method with lowrance reveal where they have combined down scan and sonar into an overlay so you don't need to split screen. You can also then triple split screen and use side scan at the same time with plotter if so choose.

Great video! I know it's old so ya may know differently now but that rockpile line you marked would have been closer to 134 foot line than the 160 you said it was. With side imaging the depth is subtracted from the read. So with your depth being 13-14 at that oarticular instance you would need to subtract that from your 80 off each side. Figured I'd stop an let ya know so people don't miss understand the readings on these bad boys!
