After getting this microphone and using it for a week or so I've had consistent feedback and issues regarding how basy my voice sounds. It almost feels as if the bass is washing out all the other sounds and making them muddier, I found the solution to this was using an EQ programme and it worked like a charm. I'm not sure if that's normal for microphones but I would certainly say for acceptable results, just "plug and play" isn't going to help if you're a person with a deeper voice.

Have always loved Sennheiser. Back in my rock & roll days I always rolled with my own e835 because I hated the ubiquitous sm58s that venues had. Sennheiser has always been my first look company since. Still use their wireless guitar setup and the Senn ENG wireless pack was the standard for more than decade. Sadly I dropped my e835 one too many times. The Profile seems like a strong mic.

Impressive! It seems that Sennheiser has decided to enter the field of content producers, podcasters and gamers in a big way. The sound quality is simply stunning for the price. Rode and Shure should be worried right now. You didn't mention it, so I guess the answer is no. But I'll ask anyway: doesn't it have an app to control it like the Shure MV7? Thanks for the excellent video, Tom. A hug from Brazil (Rio de Janeiro)

I got mine a couple days ago. I like it -- it's quite a bright mic....I was preparing myself for some muddiness in the mid-high end, but it's crystal clear. My one very small nit to pick is that it needs an on/off switch of some sort. When it's plugged in it's on, and it may be weeks between uses, during which time I think the preamp (and gain knob light) should be shut down. It's not a huge deal to unplug the USB cable from the back of the mic....but somewhat inelegant for something that is so beautifully designed.

Hi Tom! Thank you for your video! Because of it I sent back the Rode xdm-100. I liked the rode, sounded great (although I had some random popping sounds, don't know why), but it was just so overkill for me right know. Once I figured I had to shell more money for a sturdy arm because of how heavy it is I figured this is the best choice. I really liked how this sounds (more natural than the Rode xdm-100). I tested a 30$ A.I. plug-in on your portion of the video with the background noise and it completely eliminated it so I don't think I will have a problem with my untreated room.

Great review! I bought a blue yeti microphone almost a decade ago and it is now finally starting to crap out on me after many years of hard use and a few drops off the desk. I needed a similar setup with headphone monitoring, gain knob, volume knob, and mute button- all features heavily utilized on my blue yeti. I do wish there was a portion of your video demonstrating the sound quality of the mic as if it was positioned on the desk as a standalone mic without the boom arm. The recording distance comparison was helpful, but not exactly what I was looking for, since I'm looking to pretty much have a 1:1 replacement for my yeti which functions as a desk mic without a boom arm.

Great review and your review convinced me to pick one up. I am extremely impressed with the overall quality and output. I also have a RODE Procaster paired with a MOTU M2 audio interface and it works very well but I needed something I could use on my work PC; so nothing that needs software or special drivers. More importantly is the headphone jack has enough oomph to power hungry headphones :). My only hiccup is I wish the section where the microphone mounts could swing side-to-side and not just up and down. I ended up adapting a piece from my RODE microphone that allows me to articulate the microphone at any angle.

@ The microphone is actually good and value for money no doubts but I am finding the headphone output to not be very accurate for monitoring, when you listen back to the input while monitoring it sounds different, but when you unplug the headphones from the provided jack and use some other device like an audio interface, the difference is clear. This is exactly why I sent it back the last time I got it, I was planning to buy it again thinking maybe I got a defective one last time, but its the same this time as well, I am sending it back again and getting the NT USB Plus

Thanks, Tom! Amazing video, as always! I have to admit I come from a bias of preferring an audio interface over a USB microphone, but I felt far less skeptical when I finished watching this video than when I started. I'm curious if you had to do any significant corrections post processing the audio from this recording. I love how there is almost no handling noise, and I love the physical controls! On the rare occasion you may need to adjust the controls during a live broadcast, that would be happening within the frame. Still, if I was to set someone who is new to using an external mic up with this mic, I think they'd feel more comfortable than say with a traditional mic + USB audio interface. Thank you again!
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Yash! I myself typically prefer XLR mics because of how much variety there is and how much I do enjoy tinkering with interfaces and stuff, but sometimes you just need a simple option, and I also definitely love having something to recommend to people that doesn't require anything else other than a USB cable 👍 I didn't do anything at all to the audio, so this is straight from the mic. Although I have been a bit congested, so I think I sound a tad more nasally than normal, but that's not the mic's fault.

There are a few (more like several) that seem good for me, but there's so many options, I couldn't decide. I watched this video, and was like "Okay, this is it! I think this is the one!" And, of course, not available yet. Haha. Doesn't seem to be really anything out there about it aside from this video, either. I don't know if I'm gonna end up waiting for it or not. Hopefully it comes out - and is actually available - relatively soon. Edit: I am leaning towards waiting for it, to be clear. It sounds great (thanks for not doing anything to the signal - and I really like the idea of not needing to mess with EQ or other things). And the rejection of plosives is very impressive. Hey Tom, great video. I have already 3 USB mics (Rode Podcaster, Rode NT-USB Mini and Elgato Wave:3) and 3 shotgun mics (Rode NTG-3, Oktava and Sony ECM-B1M) and countless wireless mics (DJI, Rode and Chinese) and I still enjoy watching you introducing yet another microphone! Greets from Berlin!

Thanks Martin! It's always fun to see/try something new. With USB mics especially, I love having a few solid recommendations to share at different price points/features/etc. And this is a GREAT one.

perfect. I'd been looking for a good quality USB mic.

Another great review, Tom...although a cursory search today resulted in no current distributors for this microphone. Is this a pre-production model? It's not even on their website yet.

I was somehow lucky enough to share a “first look” before the mic is released early next year.

I had the mic. I want something with a monitoring feature to use while gaming. Unfortunately my IEM’s give a lot of hiss/white noise using the integrated 3.5 connector and my Windows PC causes a ticking sound each second. Such a shame, really wanted to like this.

I think it sounds really good. If I didn't already have two RODE USB mic's - I'd give it a shot. Great review as always Tom!

After I listened with earphone.... dryer sound s very clear on the background..... Maybe Sennheiser will also dive into the Dynamic world in next years..... actually I had decided on Deity but after I digged Deity reviews… there are 2 big issues 1 - after restart It needs unplug-plug cycle 2 - delaying on garage band on vocals and monitoring with earphones 😑 Still Couldnt find a dynamic mic 😑

Tom, I love Sennheiser Mics! Would make a great travel USB mic for live-streaming on the go when I don’t have my Rodecaster…

It definitely is! Once I got it and started using it, I kept liking it more and more. Tough to argue with a simple, solid mic.

What's the gear you used for recording this setup? Your list is overwhelming with options, multiple cameras and stuff. So it would be interesting to know which one you used to record this video, apart from the mic as you made that clear.
@tombuck Жыл бұрын
It's definitely an overwhelming list, but I do use most of it for each video 😁 My main camera is the Sony FX3 with the Sony 24 1.4 lens. The a7SIII is my B camera with the 50 1.8 lens, and then there's a bevy of different lights all over the place.

That's pretty good background noise rejection! Seems like it would be a good choice for a bedroom streamer.

Thoughts on turning it upside down to record acoustic piano? Could the arm handle that? And, is it stereo? Great video!!
@tombuck Жыл бұрын
The arm should be able to handle that, but I don't have a piano to test for sure. I'll be making a video comparing the sound of the Profile to other mics, and I'll try to include different positionings as well.

Hi there Tom. Great videos. Watched a good few of these deciding which Microphone/Boom Arm to go for and as I’m a big fan of Sennheiser I may well have found it here! I’ve registered interest on their website but I was wondering if there is an actual release date? Thanks in advance
@tombuck Жыл бұрын
Hey James! I don't have the exact specifics, but I believe the Profile should be available REALLY soon. Definitely worth waiting just a little longer for.

@@tombuck I couldn’t agree more to be honest! Think I’ll be going for the streaming set too like you had there in your video..looks pretty neat. I’d already Subscribed so just keep up the good work as you do (and the puns!)

Is there a way to have a two or 3 mic set up for a podcast with this USB mic or do I need XLR for podcast setup? Was thinking about just buying this setup 3 times? Have not seen any video on this mic with a 2 to 3 person setup.
