Can you kindly suggest a solution . I noticed while you are using this lens it really isn't picking so much detail from your face .Regards
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
By "speck" do you mean an imperfection? If it's a part of you and your skin, I don't think it's anything to worry about or feel like you need to hide. If it's a speck that appears on every shot, it could be dust behind the lens or on the camera's sensor.

The Sigma is only for crop sensor cameras, so it’ll give you the widest field of view possible. If you need a wider shot, 16mm is the way to go. On a full frame camera, 24mm is pretty much just as wide.

They’re very different focal lengths. But on a crop sensor camera like the M50, the 16mm should look semi-similar to the 24mm on a full frame camera like in the video. The 16mm is a really great lens.

They’re pretty different to be honest. If you’re going to be outdoors in bright light most of the time the 24-104 at f4 will be just fine. If you’re going to be indoors or you just want the looks of a blurry background, the. The Sigma is the way to go. For vlogging, 16-35mm lenses are really popular because the extra width comes in very handy but you can still zoom in a bit.

@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
The 2.8 is a great budget option, but they’re pretty different. The 2.8 is specifically for crop sensor cameras, so that limits it’s use and the optics just aren’t in the same level as this Sigma or the official Canon L lens. And if you want as wide of an aperture as possible, I think the difference between 1.4 and 2.8 is pretty huge. But the 2.8 is a great lens for the price and the small size makes it super easy to travel with.

I'm pro shooter involving in international wire service and using this Sigma 24mm f/1.4 for evening shots under poor available light. Yes I do agree it's a very fine lens. The first thing I noticed was the reality of colour rendition, that fine ' Japanese taste' neutral tone not exaggerated. The down side is first, TOO HEAVY to carry, second, focusing is soft on full aperture, the working aperture is 2.8 or above for still photography. And yes image is sharp. It is a fine lens I agree but Sigma must find a way to reduce it's weight, how come it's so heavy? even for fast lens such as f/1.4?

Tom, you do such great, in-depth reviews! I have an EOS R (and an EOS R5 coming!) and have two Sigma lenses (14-24 DG HSM 2.8 Art and a 50mm DG HSM 1.4 Art) that I use on my EOS R, and they are both excellent. They're both made for DSLRs, and I'm not entirely sure of the exact pitfalls of using these lenses on a full-frame mirrorless, but I can say they are stunning lenses. I'm really looking forward to using them with the R5 with its IBIS after seeing so many positive reviews of the Eye AF options working SO well with so many different lenses. I got the lens dock with my 14-24 purchase free and it's a helpful piece of tech. I realized after I bought the R5 that I should get a second EF-RF adapter so I didn't have to change the adapter so much while changing lenses between my 70D, EOS R and EOS R5, and had heard the adapters were basically out of stock everywhere... this is true. Since I have the 14-24, with its bulbous front element, which keeps me from being able to use regular filters on it, I decided to go for the drop-in filter version (which doesn't also have a Control Ring) to allow me to use ND filters and a CP filter. I got the CPL filter version and I'll see if I want to get the Variable ND filters later, but they're pricey, and polarization is more of a concern for me at this point as I have both the 2-5 and 6-9 stop PM variable NDs and the CP filter from PolarPro for my other lenses, so I can switch to one of the other cameras if need be. Needless to say, my camera pack is pretty full and WAY heavy, but it's got some killer stuff in it! These lenses are heavy! But, with that weight comes some insanely high-quality glass that works across the board and produces some very good results. I bought the 14-24 after your review of it just for its ability to give the cropped 4K on the EOS R a better, less-cropped image, but it's standing on its own as an incredible lens overall, so I'm very happy with it. I'm sure the next lens I buy will be an RF, but I'm not sure which one it will be yet. Ideas? Have you considered a review on which RF might be useful as a first RF purchase? In all, I have a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM, an 18-135mm STM Canon kit lens that came with my 70D and the two Sigma lenses. Something in the RF line stick out to you as something I might consider first in an RF lens? Thanks for all your great info, Tom, it's much appreciated!
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kai! I'm in a very similar boat. I've got the R5 preordered and am prepping for it. I was able to find a second EF-RF adapter through Samy's Camera, but they may be out of stock now too. As for lenses, I don't personally have much experience with the RF lineup. I've only used the 24-105 and the 15-35. For me, the lineup is still too small and the lenses are still too expensive, however, the 15-35 really is spectacular! I liked it more and more each time I used it. I would definitely jump on that if there was a great sale or refurb price. Otherwise, I'm waiting to see if they do some sort of 24mm fast prime. The RF 24-105 is less positive for me- I'm actually getting significantly better results from my EF version bought used in 2014 and originally built in the early 2000's...

Shallow DOF isn’t always the best. I actually preferred F4.0 in this shot by far. (Maybe 2.8 if noise is an issue)

Thank you. This review is great! And, you are simply a natural at this. I am gathering as much information on this lens because I plan on giving myself a Christmas gift. LOL. I'm not clear about the front-focusing issue, which I have read about several times. I'm willing to give it a try, however, for my purposes. I have several Sigmas and simply love those heavy lenses. Thanks and keep up the good work!

Thanks Tom great review 👍👍👍 What do you think about Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 DC HSM Do you have any idea about this lens? Can I you it for a KZbin videos?
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
The 18-35 is an incredible lens! If I'm not mistaken, it might be Sigma's most popular one. However, it's not made for full frame cameras, so that's why I don't have one. If I had a crop sensor camera, I would probably choose the 18-35 over the 24 because of the added versatility.

Hey, great video mate. How much of a problem will the front focusing be for someone who isn't a pro or technical enough to change the focusing settings manually?
@tombuck4 жыл бұрын
Speaking as someone who's not a pro, it's not a huge issue. I would really recommend either getting the USB dock or finding a kit that comes with it for free just in case. If you've got 30 minutes to an hour to be patient and work through the settings, you can get it pretty easily. And once you've done it once, it'll be a lot simpler. I've never used one myself, but they make calibration tools that seem super helpful: www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1439588-STUD/vello_lens_2020_af_lens_calibration_tool.html

WOW these videos are incredibly detailed! Tom if you have a moment I'd love your thoughts on this question: comparing the Sigma 24 1.4 in this video, to the 14-24 Sigma 2.8, is there an advantage of this prime lens at 24mm compared to the zoom lens at 24mm?
@tombuck2 жыл бұрын
Hey Rob! The biggest advantage is the f1.4 aperture. Both lenses are super sharp and look great, so it just comes down to how often you think you’ll shoot at a wide open aperture. For me, even though 2.8 is awesome, it just doesn’t compare to 1.4, which I tend to use very often. If you don’t plan to go beyond 2.8 very much, then there’s really no reason not to go for the added versatility of the zoom 👍
@rob_stein2 жыл бұрын
@@tombuck Thank you so much for your quick and detailed reply! I ask because I'm remodeling my studio and will have two new angles, one at the desk view with a very similar look to your videos, and another zoomed into a Vibe board for teaching material, where the Vibe and I (standing) will take up almost the entire screen. I was thinking the 14mm-24mm Sigma could be ideal for both and I could use a cropped 4k if needed to zoom in more for the Vibe board, but seeing your videos on the 1.4 has me thinking of getting two lenses, one dedicated for sitting at the desk, and another for the more zoomed in view standing with the Vibe board.

I just found that metabones released the EF to RF speedbooster: www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPEF-EFR-BT1. Would that make this lens a 17mm 1.0 Monster? Have you tried this speedbooster? The website says it won't work with 1080P but it will fix the 4K crop, for 24mm 1.0, that's still a monster. Wondering what you think of this setup.

Hi Tom: Another excellent walk-through of an important piece of your equipment. For my Zoom meetings I'm using a Canon SL3 APS-C with the included 18-55 kit lens. I'm looking at the Sigma 18-35mm 1.8 Art Lens. You mentioned in this video you also have the 18-35mm 1.8 Art Lens. Two questions: 1) How would you rate the Sigma 18-35 1.8 Art Lens for use with an APS-C camera? 2) Can the Sigma 1.4 Art Lens be used with an APS-C sensor camera - are there any special considerations in doing so?
@tombuck3 жыл бұрын
Great questions! 1. The 18-35 is one of, if not the most popular APS-C lenses out there. You cannot go wrong with it. It's so good! 2. You can definitely use the 24mm or any "full frame" lens with your camera with no special considerations. If you look at the camera's lens mount you'll see a white square and a red dot. APS-C lenses mount by aligning to the white square and full frame lenses mount by aligning to the red dot. 👍 There are issues with using crop lenses on full frame, but no problems with using full frame on crop.
