I have been listening to Ventures from 1980. This is best cover of this song till now. Very well played. Sounds like original.

Great, gets the blood going. Always great tutorials from you Tom. Great sound too.
As a kid I half assed many of the Ventures tunes. Only nailed down a few note for note. Seeing your videos has inspired me to bust out my Fender “The Ventures” signature Jazzmaster and relearn the ones I forgot and to tackle ones I was always afraid of! Very nicely done Tom, you have a new fan and subscriber! 🤘🏻🤘🏻

I was not aware of any version other than Ronno's until today. Spent many hours trying to play it in the late 70's working from my dad's old copy of the Richard Rogers piano sheet music. Must be tme to try playing it again.

Iv been revisiting alot of your videos Tom, I have been fascinated by this song for a long time. I think it's what you would call a 'surf standard' I think it's origins are from well before The Ventures, but The Ventures gave it their stamp ! Without your tab & chords most importantly I wouldn't have a chance of figuring out. What a unique arrangement & chords ? Having a play along with the chords first great fun (have you heard The Shadows version one of the few times I don't like a cover of theirs) Your playing phaww sublime 👌🏻 excellent as always

Probably this and ‘Caravan’ are the jazziest tunes The Ventures ever recorded. The thing that always struck me as odd is that when I went back to the film Soundtrack vinyl LP of ‘Slaughter on 10th Avenue’ from 1948, I couldn’t hear any similarities? From what I assume The Ventures copied The Shadows arrangement most likely but speeding up the tempo quite a lot.

Hi,great job! can you suggest me something to get that Ventures sound may be ,a fuzz or what?I really wanna play it!
@pb1266110 күн бұрын
you definitely don't want fuzz on this song. Just a slight overdriven amp sound. You can get close with an overdrive pedal (don't set the distortion high....... More like 25 percent) .....a boss blues driver pedal or Ibanez tube screamer would work well. And then a little compression if you have it.

G,day Tom. Love your style and presentations mate. Tom regards the Classic Jassmaster, What neck relieve, string height and string gauge are you using on the Jass? love that tone you get.
@tomcon215 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I use Ernie Ball Regular Slinkies, .10-.46 gauge. As far as neck relief and string height, I have a local shop set it up to factory settings whatever those may be.
@allanroberts78365 жыл бұрын
@@tomcon21 Thank you for replying Tom . I guess its all a matter of personal preference depending on style, string gauge and how hard you play. I have played around with my strats settings and ended up using DAddario 11-49 with wound 3rd, 12 thou neck relief and string height 5/64 on the low and 4/64 on the high. Plectrum thickness. I also found that going from .73mm jim dunlop nylon to 1.0 jim dunlop big stubby made a diff too, this may have been due to the thicker string gauge. think I found my baby's sweet spot, does feel a bit tighter and sharper now if you get my twang. Anyway Tom, you keep those vid's flowing mate, you are an absolute pleasure to watch and learn from. I tip my hat to you Sir. Thank you.

This song is about the tsunami that is going to hit the entire Eastern U.S. coast. They've been planning it since before the 1930's. Bruce Springsteen has a song about the tsunami as well, they are also going to freeze everyone to death who survives. Bruce's song is called '10th Avenue Freeze Out' and although he wrote the song he 'doesn't know what it means, but knows it's important'.
