So some times you win, and some times you loose... It is after all what makes the adventure so much fun. Exploring new spots and testing out places to ride is not for the faint hearted and definitely not for people who don't know what they are doing. Don't try anything like on this video as it can definitely end worse than this so I think I was lucky to get away with it un-scathed!
I finally get to ride a secret spot on the south coast of the Isle of Wight during a nice 40 knot storm, with some big waves and side, side-off winds it was firing! The o only issue was the launch, so I enlisted the help of the Kite Launcher to get me safely onto the water...
Testing out the new 2021 Duotone Rebel, this was a session to remember!! Lucky I had the new GoPro 9 with me to stack the POV of the hammering :)

Thanks for documenting such nasty experience. How often do you guys end up in situations like this or similar? Would be good to see and learn from such videos in the future. It is always nice to see when everything goes as planned, however it is also good to see that these things can happen to everyone including PROs like you.

Yea always expect the worst to happen, and then you should always be safe!! I have had about 4/5 of these type of situations in my time. None on film 😂

Awesome footage, thanks for sharing. Those of us that have been kiting long enough eventually all have gotten into these type of "oh shit" situations. Looked narly af - glad you didn't get splattered on the rocks at least! One for the books for sure. Props for going back for the kite though - I would not have bothered at that stage (especially not if I was sponsored lol), it looked completely fucked. Better to come back the next day and fish the gear out in calmer waters...

Last time I was over I went out there in an east wind at low tide and nice bit sand in middle of the bay 👍....if wind blows from east for few days waves can be ok 🤙

Man! That’s scary, glad you are safe and got all gear too! My kite got leaked when I was out two miles away from beach for downwind ride with three friends, lucky i didn’t kite alone so my friend towed me from riding behind him with his harness and other friend grabbed my kite and we all went back to the beach safe, I filmed all that... this video remind me to edit that video haha

Great 'real world' video Tom. Think you've gone up in everyone's estimation, for showing what can happen to any of us. Recovery looked rough but the water entry at start, walking over slippery boulders with wind gusting was super sketchy. Falling or getting dragged on rocks wouldnt be pretty

Good to see that you manage well to get out of that kitemare ! How bad the kite ended ? It seems that it could be repaired and be used again for these kind of sketchy sesh. Where I live we also have rocks in front of a wave garder and that also happens often, luckily I never been caught in. Cheers and keep shreding !

OMFG bro. That was painful to watch!! Its all shits and giggles until someone giggles and shits. kudos for having the humility to post this for people to see and understand the potential consequences. One important thing you did which many people fail to do...RELEASE the kite completely in a situation like this. Priority #1 get to shore safely and worry about the kit later. Hopefully you can salvage some of the gear

@@tomcourtkite I'm glad you can buff it out! Ha. Scars tell stories. Happened to me in Ireland once with a 3 week old CORE kite exploded by 5m wave about 6 years ago. Released kite and almost drowned trying to get myself to shore.. Torn from leading edge to trailing edge. That night I cleaned it and glued it with kitefix and save on tape...back in the air the next day...still flys fine today

One small mistake while you're working the kite like that in hectic conditions and game-over... presume you just touched it down bearing towards it, on the inside, holey wind?.. not coming up without an amazing piece of luck. It was my smallest kite in the van!! 😂 but the small sizes of rebel are also good in waves, just higher sizes are cluncky
