I'm baffled why you don't have more subscribers, your videos are well edited, informative and your emphasis on safe flying and your checklist rituals are exactly what new pilots really need to see. The only thing I can think of is that maybe you just don't post that often. But otherwise thanks for taking the time to do the videos that you do.

Nice Mooney. Have to love the Dual G5s and GFC 500 AP. I Had Dual G5s and GFC500 installed almost 3 years ago and it’s a game changer for sure. Glad you touched on good decision making and not having get there itis. I own a Cherokee based at KCEU ,,, Pickens (KLQK) has cheap fuel too!

Man, this was good. All on point. I am pretty much doing what you are doing. Time building in my C150J. I want to fly and fly all the time. With that said, I have not touched or seen a plane for a month because of the crappy weather here in S IL. It's just not smart or worth the risk. I also feel the same way about night flying. I am at 515 hrs with only 40 hrs at night. This year, I plan on flying 700 hrs and need to build some night hours, but I don't like it. In my 500 hrs, I've already had to declare a real emergency (icing). I was lucky it worked out and made it home safe, but it taught me a good lesson. Fresh out with my instrument rating, I took a flight where the TAF coming home was calling for 1000+ ceiling. Well, the TAF lied because the ceiling ended up being 500 above the ILS minimums. My personal limit was 1000. I shot the ILS and landed at home but felt guilty for having done the flight. You never know with the weather. The forecast is just that. A forecast and many times, it ends being something else. Fly safe, brother, and good luck with the time building.

Thanks for sharing! I’ve had a couple scares myself and learned a lot from them.

Man I love flying at night near and around Charlotte. It's bright and there are plenty of highways.

I’d rather fly with another pilot with good judgment over one with good skills but poor ADM skills.

I just came across your channel, and I am enjoying your videos! I fly into KCKI often, and, when you mentioned in the video that you were “diverting” there, I was straining to see if my plane was parked there!

Another great video. Do you have any checklists you use for instrument approaches using the GFC500 & GTN 750 combo? I’d like to create my own, but would like a good starting point.

Enjoying the videos! Curious on your ADM for determining straight in vs std traffic pattern for landing? I get straight in for convenience but have come across non-ADSBd and non-radioed planes at a couple of rural airports in the pattern that were only evident upon visual identification. Crazy to think there are those out there flying that way but there are and that always give me pause on the straight in.

I evaluate it on a case by case basis. The question I ask myself is “what gets me on the ground in the safest manner?”. Sometimes, like in this case, I had good visibility, a slow approach speed, didn’t see or hear any traffic, so it made sense. I’m also an advocate for talking with the other people in the pattern and not just relying on position reports etc. I make sure they hear me and see me and I let them know I hear and see them. I was flying into another airport the other day and there two airplanes in the pattern as I was arriving. After coordinating with them, it was again safer and less disruptive to just make straight in rather than maneuver into the downwind. ✌️
