Thank you!! RB academy gets so much shit, even though it it’s one of the best things to happen to F1. Why is it so hard to accept that Albon and Gasly didn’t deliver and were demoted (even kept Gasly in AT and he is hot property now). And Kvyat was in F1 since 2014 and even though he is a good driver, he just wasn’t that good enough to keep him for another year. He never really showed true promise to be great
@formulafish15363 жыл бұрын
Not to mention that the RB academy forced other teams to fund more young drivers to prevent missing out on talent! Sure, Red Bull have a habit of mistreating their academy drivers, but they have produced some of the best drivers in recent F1, as well as other sports! In F1 alone you have Max, Pierre, Carlos, Daniel and Seb. Go to other sports and former drivers and suddenly you have Buemi, Algersuari (criminally underrated), JEV, Albon, Kvyat, Hartley, among many others. And then you look at those who they have signed to fill voids. Webber, Coulthard and Checo. All are incredibly talented drivers, and it looks like all of them will finish their careers in F1 there, certainly Webber and Coulthard did. Hornet and Marko are exceptional talent spotters, and can tell who will make F1, and who to ditch. But they need to be better at HR.

This has often been the case. But especially today there are so many genuinely talented drivers that won’t win a world championship because they aren’t aligned with the right team, and are just in the wrong era. Just think about this: Without Schumacher, Button would be a 2x champion, Damon Hill also. Montoya would be a multiple time world champion, as would Raikkonen. Without Hamilton, Rosberg would be a 3 time champion, Verstappen would be a world champion, as would Bottas and Massa. Vettel would be a 5+ time champion. Without Mercedes in the Hybrid Era, Ricciardo would be a world champion, as would Charles and Max. Without Seb, Mark Webber would be a world champion, Fernando would have another championship and the 2013 championship would have been wide open. It is so easy to think about how many different drivers could be world champions in different eras, and look at the results without certain teams and drivers, but sadly these dominant patches exist, so these incredible drivers never end up having the success that they so easily could have had had things been a little bit different.

Alex got promoted too quickly. They should have given Kvyat the RedBull seat and let Gasly and Albon go Head to head in the TorroRosso for the 2020 RedBull seat. Other completely wasted talents (who made it to F1 otherwise there would be to many) are Vandoorne (Alonso wiped the floor with him and he never got another chance), Wehrlein (scored a point in the shitbox of a Manor, didn't get the 2017 Mercedes seat and the 2017 sauber was shit, never got a real chance to really prove himself at at least a midfield team), also Grosjean in my opinion was kinda a wasted talent (yeah he crashed a bit too often, but his race pace is rapid, in his IndyCar rookie season pole and P2 is stellar)

Here's my take. Vettel is still one of the fastest drivers on the grid today. He had been a consistently rapid challenger during 2017, 2018, 2019. I personally don't think a terrible 2020 Ferrari which goes directly against his needs in a car is enough to say he's lost it. He isn't doing great in 2021 yet either, but I think with some time in the car he's going to come back to perform incredibly well in years to come.

Well that aged well
@olivialambert41242 жыл бұрын
@@raitaikai1514 I mean he's been good and he's been bad. He had a great race at Baku for sure, but I'd say the trend is far below what I was expecting to be honest. For sure a trash car is partially to blame, Stroll was also pretty rapid qualifying in the past and that has gone in 2022 too, but some good drivers like Bottas have really been able to make a mediocre car look good. That's more what I'd hoped of Vettel. In short I personally think it didn't age great but I'm not yet ready to throw it away as wrong. I'm still dreaming of fast Vettel the same way I'm dreaming of Ricciardo glory. As an aside I think I'm pretty much proven spot on with the 2020 Ferrari being largely suspension issues. I don't know why so many keep running the engine narrative given the sheer amount of evidence we have now.

The fact that Kvyat was beaten so handily by Gasly is partly due to the points system. I think Gasly on an average race would be around 8 while Kvyat finished many times in p11. Another reason to extend the points to top 15.
@Shackleracer983 жыл бұрын
Honestly, award points to anyone who finishes. That really makes fights like that Shumacher Latifi battle in Portimao really worth something and also gives them a reason to go for it even if it's only about P17. Would've also made for some interesting Caterham vs. Marussia vs. HRT championship fights in 2010-2012

F1 used to have things that set it apart from other series in a quite elitist manner, but that kind of gave it the magic of something unapproachable a win getting only 10 points, and as a result only 6 or 8 drivers getting points at all, was one of those things i think already too many drivers are getting points, and too many of them, points are now less special than they used to be

Hot take: If Red Bull resigned Ricciardo and teamed him up with Max, they would win more Constructors championships, but might lose out to Lewis in the drivers championship due to friction and tension between the two drivers (Baku 2018 flashbacks)

I think it's hard to estimate Russell's talent in a Williams, so instead I would look at his junior carreer, which up till now in stellar. He won pretty convincingly in F2 and his karting results are on the same level as Hulkenberg's

Bear in mind with the prediction about Williams and Haas doing well next year, Mercedes and Red Bull are likely going to have to carry on with development rather than focussing on next year because of the championship battle between them, which could potentially close the gap between them and the other teams

Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg would be a fantastic lineup. They pushed each other to great performances in 2018. Also the dynamic should work well, with Hulkenburg being an incredibly consistent midfield driver and Magnussen being more of a high risk/high reward driver

Max verstappen isn’t overrated, he’s a generational talent. But he is prematurely hyped when people refer to him as an all time great. But it depends who’s opinions we’re talking about. If we’re talking about max fan boys who say he’s the fastest since the land before time, then yeah, they are over rating him. He has been flattered by the fact that his driving style that he uses for his car, is not a way of driving many drivers find intuitive or easy to adapt to. He’s good at driving a complicated style. But his inexperienced team mates have flattered how fast he appears. The same thing is happening at McLaren now between Lando and Daniel.
@rmx393 жыл бұрын
Or, maybe he is just fast?
@barbonson_richards3 жыл бұрын
But if that particular driving style allows him to get more from a car than other drivers then he's just too fast for them lol
@steez89023 жыл бұрын
@@barbonson_richards not saying he isn’t fast. But the GAP is exaggerated. And his fanboys think that translates to being the same amount of difference against all drivers in any car
@steez89023 жыл бұрын
@@barbonson_richards I’m saying verstappen wouldn’t be that fast relative to other fast drivers in other cars or against other drivers that can also adapt and drive difficult styles. I’m saying he’s fast and up there with the best but some of his fanboys think driving a difficult car better than drivers who struggle with it, means he will pull the same difference in every scenario. He won’t, and that’s already been proven when Checo was right behind him in Imola (or ahead if you include his mistake) and Checo has never been a fast Saturday qualifier. Look at his Tim in toro rosso vs sainz, or his years against Daniel. He has been flattered by inexperienced teams mates.
@barbonson_richards3 жыл бұрын
@@steez8902 So basically what youre saying is is that the more complicated a car is to drive, the bigger the gap between a good and a great driver will appear? I agree with that, but that doesnt mean he wouldnt beat them in simpler cars as well, maybe just not as often. It's true that the more complicated a car is to drive, the more the driver skill influences the lap times. But that doesnt make him underrated, it just means it easier to rate him compared to drivers in cars that are easier to drive. And lets be real he won his first race a week after he heard he would be driving for the team, so he must be either pretty damn good at adapting to cars, or there was an insanely lucky match between him an the car. But the fact he was put in that car at 18 years of age after only 2 years of single seater experience suggests the former.

7:28 Based on how the 2022 season is going, this comment hasn't aged well. Haas made incredible progress with KMag at the wheel, but they are a midfield team, not a championship contender. Williams, on the other hand, is still very much a backmarker team. EDIT: 9:05 Checo is now P2 in the 2022 driver's standings
