A very beloved song in Sweeen and Tommy did it more than justice.❤ A poor, hardworking farmhand tells about his strenous life.

The Swedish language is so beautiful. I have been studying it for several years and I spent some time in that country of wonderful musical talent too. :) EUROPE forever! :D

It's an old Swedish song written in 1971 about a poor farmhand. Not sure that it has a summer feel since it's about being poor and struggling until the day you die. This is one of those songs that more or less every Swede knows since they were a child.

This song has to do with Astrid Lindgren (Pippi Longstocking) It's a folk song, and in the end, it's rather sad! I am a poor peasant, But I'm still alive Days come and go, While I knuckle down Harrows, harrows and ploughs, Mocking, digging and carrying Goes behind my oxen, Shouting, whistling and swearing I am a poor peasant, And I chew my snuff And when Saturday comes, Do I want to get spirits? Then, when I was alive, I want to be tamed and fight Rest with a girl I want too, of course Then, the sun comes, And then our priest wants, That I'm going to church But then I mostly sleep The priest can sleep All Monday, though For a poor peasant, Starting the knuckle again. That's how the whole week goes, All days and years I walk with my scythe, And I plow and sow I drive my oxen And I rake my hay, Harrows, gnomes and thralls, And finally I will die Standing there, poor peasant, Next to Heaven's Gate A little scared and sad For the sins I committed One should not drink, Keep up with girls and fight The Lord God in Heaven, Dissatisfied, of course But, then the Lord says: Poor peasant, come here! I have seen your aspiration And your eternal toil Therefore, poor peasant, Are you welcome here? Therefore, poor peasant, When will you be me? And I, poor peasant, Standing so still before God And then he dresses me The most snow-white screw Now you, says the Lord, Is your work done Now you, poor peasant, Now you get to rest!

@playagain963 Here is the English translation of the song (Fattig Bonddräng..) POOR PESANT I am a poor peasant but I'm still alive. Days come and go, while I knuckle down, harrows, harrows and ploughs, mochas, digs and bears, go after my oxen, shouting, whistling and swearing. I am a poor peasant and I chew my snuff, and when saturday comes I want to get drunk. Then, when I was alive, I want to be tamed and fight, rest with a girl I want too, of course. Then comes the probe and then our priest wants, that I'm going to the choir but then I mostly sleep. The priest can sleep all monday though for a poor peasant starts the knuckle again. That's how the whole week goes all days and years, I go with my scythe and I plow and sow. I drive my oxen and I rake my hay, harrows, gnomes and thralls, and finally I shall die. Standing there, poor peasant, by heaven's gate, a little scared and less for the sins I have committed. One should not sup, kept with girls and fighting. Lord God in heaven is of course dissatisfied. But then the Lord says: Poor peasant, come here! I have seen your striving and your eternal toil. Therefore, poor peasant, are you welcome here Therefore, poor peasant, when will you be with me And I, poor peasant, stand so still before God, and then he dresses me the most snow-white screw. Now you, says the Lord, is your work done. Now you, poor peasant, now you can rest.

These are the approximate lyrics: I'm a poor farmhand, But I live on, you know Days pass by and come again, As I toil and I hoe Harrowing, sowing, plowing, Shoveling, digging the dirt Behind my oxen walking, Whistling, swearing, it hurts I'm a poor farmhand, And I chew on my snuff And when Saturday comes, I want to get tough Then, when I'm merry, I want to brawl and fight Rest with a girl Would also feel right Then comes Sunday, And our priest does insist, That I should be in church But I mostly resist The priest can sleep through All Monday, it's fair But for a poor farmhand, The work's always there. So goes all the week, Every day and year I go with my scythe, And I plow and I sear I drive my oxen, And I stack up my hay, Harrowing, slogging, laboring, Until I die one day Standing there, poor farmhand, At Heaven's gate A little scared and saddened For the sins on my slate You shouldn't drink, Nor fight nor flirt The Lord God in Heaven, Must be feeling hurt But then says the Lord: Poor farmhand, come near! I've seen your striving And your toil year by year So, poor farmhand, You are welcome here So, poor farmhand, Stay close, never fear And I, poor farmhand, Stand still before God And then He clothes me In the whitest robe Now you, says the Lord, Your work is all done Now you, poor farmhand, Now your rest has begun (Through chatGPT)
