its because you aren't teaching the proper mechanics and teaching them to throw sliders and curvs at the age of 12. But what most people don't know about tommy john is that your elbow is now stronger because they replace the ligament with a stronger one from your leg typically.
@josephcasey78426 жыл бұрын
It is because of these tournament teams, they over throw in these tournaments where they throw 100+ pitches. a day and sometimes they pitch 2-3 games in two days. Yes they are good at that age but you just ruined their life by doing that.
@Kawinj6 жыл бұрын
Not sure what age you're talking about, but my kid plays 12U and on a typical 2 day tourney. He'll only pitch the first game Saturday and if needed one on Sunday. Any team he's played on typically has no less than 3 very good pitchers, and 2 mediocre ones. No coach should be chewing up one kid's arm or even two over an entire weekend tourney. Nor should a parent allow it.
@bub70976 жыл бұрын
not sure what tournaments you've heard of but every one ive played in is if you throw 90+ pitches for 1 game, you must have 4 days of not pitching before you can get back on the mound in that tournament.

It’s not from just pitching. I understand it’s mainly pitchers who have the surgery but there’s been multiple position players who get it from just throwing to first base. Like Corey Seager .

Sean I lucked out. I was a catcher and I felt my arm starting to go after I threw a guy out at second. If I’d pushed it any further I probably would have needed surgery. I was twelve, I think. I didn’t play much the rest of that season and dropped out of baseball, but I can at least play catch today and do some long toss once in a while with friends seven years later. Just too much baseball at too young of an age.

Why not have kids learn to pitch with both arms. Then they can spread out the wear and tear. Yes, have them become ambidextrous
@TTSetters6 жыл бұрын
My son started pitching and I'm extremely aware of this. If you have kids, and they are playing you NEED to enforce a regiment of training and rest. We warm up, dynamic stretching etc and toss the ball for about 10 minutes. When he starts pitching for practice, he gets a hard count of 50 and he's done for the next two days. We'll still play catch or something mild but no full wind up pitching motions allowed. You as a parent have to enforce some rules, or it's going to get out of hand. In little league, they get (minor c) hard pitch counts of 50, and 2 full days rest. If you had a game on tues and thur, if you hit 50 on tues then you can't pitch on thursday. That's the league rules and on the surface it sounds great. The problem here is kids start playing in multiple leages, and have overlapping days where they pitch several days in a row. Don't let them do this, you are only hurting them in the long run even though right now it 'seems fine' TJohns is a creeper.
@hyper86484 жыл бұрын
Bruh I had to pitch 3 days in a row and probably 60 per game, so I threw around 150-180 pitches in 3 days with minimal rest. Now I have to get therapy because of overworking.

I know 2 kids that did travel ball at age 7/8 and they just quit baseball and they were good players. I just don't see the rush. They can play wiffle ball / t-ball / etc for a couple years and develop their fundamentals and coordination. I think 9 is a good time to start kid pitch little league.

A kid at my High School tore his UCL in Wrestling when he got his elbow bent the wrong way (or something like that). He ended up having Tommy John Surgery (he was Seventeen at the time) after being in a cast/sling for like two months because he had also dislocated his elbow and he was hoping to avoid surgery for his UCL. Nevertheless he underwent Tommy John surgery about two months after the original injury and was in a cast/sling, then a sling, and then a “robot arm thing” for like the rest of the school year (original injury happened in December, surgery in February). 🤷🏼♀️ He was in some of my classes and my grade so I saw him pretty much everyday.

This is all because kids are playing AAU baseball way too much and playing baseball and putting strain on their arm pitching a hundred pitches a weekend throwing curve balls that absolutely putting more stress on an arm than a kid that age should be able to take
@jacksonvance74046 жыл бұрын
Logan Daniels breaking balls put less stress on your arm than a fastball though. Question the old school ways. Read about the motus sleeve. It’ll be worth your time
@logandaniels48816 жыл бұрын
Jackson Vance yes but still putting your hand spin in an unnatural way like that is definitely not good for a child that young you should wait until you're at least 15 to throw a pitch like that

Logan Daniels that’s just absurd. Why 15? Who decided this perfect motion? A true breaking ball is just a fastball with a different wrist position.

Dr Andrews stated the reason. Once you throw past 90mph the UCL goes past the breaking point. AKA TJ surgery incoming.
@mikeyp1346 жыл бұрын
treston pritchett true. But a lot of kids don't have good form until they've played a while. And throwing them too much puts too much strain on the arm that they're already stressing due to bad mechanics. Coaches need to teach how to throw with your lower body from day one so we don't have to worry about our kids blowing their arm out at age 14. Also, the kids in the LLWS have great form, but many of them end up hurting themselves due to over exertion. The small tears that are caused by throwing need time to heal before they are compounded and eventually snap. 👍

My school never had a lot of people that played baseball and the kids that knew, never played on an actual team so needless to say they started me at least 2 out of the three games we played every week. At the end of my junior year of high school I threw over a thousand pitches and we only had about 20 ish games in the season. Finally they introduced the pitch count limits and rest days in my senior year but by that time my arm was pretty messed up. I remember some games my arm would be shaking from how bad it was hurting but we didn’t have anyone else good to pitch so my coach just kept starting me every other game. 🤦🏽♂️

A lot of these kids mechanics are trash and lead to these injuries
@bub70976 жыл бұрын
well they're young and dont have the full capabilities or the strength yet, so if its happening at that young of an age, they're either over pitching or just getting unlucky
@whywhy32896 жыл бұрын
BubblerRL and that's is kinda what I mean by mechanics. These young kids are so focused on throwing hard with their arms that they do not build bodywide strength and coordination necessary to throw at high velocity safely.

What a terrible parenting choice to leave it up to a 16 year old what his future in baseball would be! Real easy to take the pressure off of the parent and leave it up to a kid! Ignore what any doctor is telling you and let a 16 year old decide! Pathetic

And for hippies, and the less fortunate, and nature lovers, and people who want to get some light exercise- we don't like to exclude anybody, oh and I almost forgot, it's also for people who don't want to destroy their bodies and let grown adults project insecurities on developing minds and bodies. Can't forget that one.

The problem is these pitching restrictions. We are babying our arms today and not getting them used to the possible stress they could go through later in careers.

VS Knives - I agree with him. What would you contribute the sudden rise of injures to recently then? When I played pitchers threw just as hard and injures like these were almost unheard of. Now with the strict pitching limits that they must abide by the injuries have skyrocketed.
@vs.72956 жыл бұрын
Deathless Its the complete opposite everyone I play with Has around 1-2 weeks off a year from baseball Its not the pitching limits, its the playing winter through winter always throwing a baseball. Throwing motion does not strengthen the ucl just puts stress on it. Todays youth plays 125 games on average more a year then the 2000s
@rochestermonarchs446 жыл бұрын
VS Knives 125 games more per year... not a chance. You’re saying kids play, on average, a third of a year more games? And you’re right the throwing motion doesn’t strengthen a UCL however it can strengthen small muscles around the elbow and in the shoulder than can help support ligaments. Also if pitching mechanics were taught with fundamentally stronger beginnings, kids would be throwing properly with higher arm slots which puts less stress on a ucl overall and more stress on your shoulder, core and Lats.
