Tommy was made for Hollywood. I went to a lot of games back then and the fans would love it when he waddled out to argue with the umpires. Sometimes he even got a standing ovation! Good times….

What children the umpires are these days. Lasorda would have been gone before even getting a word out in todays baseball.

It's the PC culture that Selig and Manfred have instituted. Umpires shielding players and managers from other umpires, you can't argue ejections or warnings anymore. I bet Lasorda would get suspended today for his confrontation with the Philly Phanatic.

Tommy is out of line. For as much praise people give him, Tommy also was out of line often with the umpires. This is another case of that. I didn't see any reason for Tommy to get ejected but the argument was pointless.
@rayray41928 ай бұрын
Tommy was profane. The argument was not pointless. The umpires kicked the shit out of the call. Tommy was right. Reggie had no rights as a retired runner, and intentionally hindered the defense. The umpire says,” Tommy, it has to be intentional.” Yeah, absolutely correct, interference with a thrown ball must be intentional. Jackson cheated. He absolutely intentionally interfered with the throw. Batter/ runner should have been called out, and if that was not the third out, all runner’s returned to their time of pitch base. LaSorda infuriated fans in The City because fans would boo him and he would blow kisses to them. Candlestick Park in south city had no way for the visitors to get to the clubhouse except walk to the right field Giants bullpen and exit the field through a small door. When Tommy would get ejected fans would boo him the entire walk ( slow, because he ate a lot of linguini with a rich clam sauce) to the clubhouse tunnel, and Tommy loved it- he blew kisses and laughed- he was a showman; he was good for baseball, and I rooted for him to lose every game he managed.

He wanted it ruled a triple, which is the rarest type of base hit there is. Usually, when there is a triple it is hit into an area of the park where there are many angles created by the walls and the ball bounces around crazily. Typically, they are hit into the right field corner which is farthest from third base.

It's umpire judgment. Say a dog runs on the field and grabs a base hit and runs all over the field. You place the dogs - I mean runners where you think they would have ended up. So it would be ruled an inside the park home run and all runners score!!! (just kidding on that)

Two things...I don't believe you don't watch MLB anymore if you still come on YT and watch MLB videos. Second, umpires ejected managers and players all the time even back in the "good old days".
