Saw Tommy play a challenger tournament in 2015 when he first turned pro and was immediately impressed with his athleticism. I’ve enjoyed watching his career develop since then and find him the most entertaining American player to watch. He has a lot of variety and great hands to go with his athleticism. The only limit is the serve, he doesn’t win a lot of free points off serve and today it really let him down in the latter sets. I’m hoping for good things on the US Open series.

One thing Tommy can take away from this loss is how well be neutralized all the tools Carlos has in his tool box in the first set and beginning of the second. If he can figure out a way to maintain that level of aggressive play combined with defense, he will make this a five setter 50/50 match in the future. 8/27 break points is a crazy stat.

He was playing so well but Alcaraz can just reach a level that is insane. I feel bad for Tommy because you can tell that he is genuinely pissed that he couldn’t find a solution today. Tennis is such a frustrating game to play. This press conference was just brutal and I can understand why players hate them especially when they lose. They should make only the winners do the press conferences because it is a bit cruel to interview someone after a heartbreaking loss.

Geeze, men's tennis has some great looking men! Tommy Paul and Matteo Berrettini are total hotboxes!🔥 Matteo is modeling all over Italy. Tommy should be modeling here in the U.S. I can see him being the face of Tommy Hilfiger. OK, enough with my gushing. My knees are too weak to stand. Tommy is the definition of a California surfer. A slacker with more talent than anyone in his little finger. What will it take for Tommy to win a major? Is it coaching? Working harder? Hitting more balls? Studying more? Moving better? Serving better? Maybe all of the above? We know how Sinner and Alcaraz will dominate the game but Tommy, Fritz, and Tiafoe are right there, on the border of breaking through but none of them figured out how to do it yet. U.S. Tennis has very bright minds. What would they say needs to happen to bring Tommy and the other U.S. men over the finish line?
