I stopped watching tennis back in 1995. I wish I hadn’t. Anyway, 3 years ago I decided to give it another try. It was during Indian Wells, and Carlitos was around 20 in the world. He brings so much joy, and so much incredible play to the game, that there is never a boring match with him.

Firstly, thank you for this content, specially for the great wimbledon recap on the first half of the video. I respectfully disagree with the analysis on the second half of the video. I believe there is an easier storyline that explains Carlos's dominance in the finals, without so much "stats picking": Djoko net strategy didn't work out, and while he insisted on that strategy for almost 2 whole sets, Carlos developed a huge lead. After Djoko adapted, Carlos was already winning by a large margin, had momentum, and more physicality - but the 3rd set was disputed nonetheless. Djoko had a bad knee and a defeating strategy (that he insisted on for too long). Carlos was whole and effective. All the stats you showed are not causes, but consequences of this scenario. That is only my opinion anyway, so take it with a considerable grain of salt! Thanks and have all a great day!

7:42 This illustrates why the "in attack" stat is meaningless.
@ifeanyiikpegbu64654 ай бұрын
Attack can be initiated from anywhere on the court, not just a specified area like the stat presumes
@azsl314 ай бұрын
Alcaraz has always been the outlier in this stat. The reason is that his shot making ability is good he doesn’t need to sustain an attack since he can usually get it done with just one or two shots. Add to that that his defense is so good that his opponents stay on attack longer since they will often struggle to finish the point.

As a fan of Carlitos and the new gen in general, I still think that the biggest reason for the Wimbledon result being what it was was Novak’s lack of playing ability. In the first two sets we saw absolutely zero body language and motivation- he just looked oddly flat and subdued. The third was slightly better and we saw glimpses of what could have been from Novak- at this point though, alcaraz was on a run and was locked in. If Novak wanted to win the match he needed to get into the zone MUCH earlier to catch alcaraz cold. Also, his knee made it so that his movement was hindered and he had to play a hyper aggressive style, going for unconvincing net approaches and risky redirection- in the end, this made it easy pickings for alcarz’s defence and athleticism.
@joser18534 ай бұрын
Also, Novak had an easy as hell draw. He shouldn't even had gotten to the finals. Put someone like Med or Sinner on the semis and he wouldn't have made it.
