The fact that I genuinely found the joke funny the first time just shows the pure power of bullshit. I never heard that guy the first time, but only watching it on repeat made me realise that nobody ever said anything close. Still though, I kind of like the idea of it not being scripted, and that there's just this one guy, going and following Tommy around the world just to let his hatred known.

Honest-to-God question: Are the audiences supposed to be aware that it's an old joke? Like, how wrestling fans are meant to react to the same catchphrases? Only asking cuz theres an annual summerfest near me where a comedy trio have been doing the same routine for decades. It's kind of a silly tradition we all laugh along with. Was curious if Tommy knows that we know its an old joke, admittedly with diminishing returns.

Yes Tommy's personality had absolutely no impact on any of the more serious drama and pointing out that even in his touring show he took the lazy and easiest way forward everytime (reusing jokes, not refreshing the set list) is not related to showing that when ceo of a company, Tommy constantly took the easy way out and just begged for other people's money.

I’m going to defend this in a way. It’s not uncommon for bands to use repeat bits/jokes, wear the same outfits, and use the same set lists. Ive seen many bands multiple times and even though it’s pretty much the same each time it has never dulled my enjoyment. Even over different tours across different years. Only difference being a couple sings from the newest album in them. This is not a defense of Tommy, just the notion of concerts being the same.
