At about 17 seconds in, Steve Allen says that Tommy is Armenian. I don’t think so though? Tedesco is an Italian last name.

The reason why everyone was laughing is because of what Steve Allen said. It was his show, and he is the guy playing the piano and doing the talking. Rewind it and listen to what he said. He said Spanish, being one of several romance languages, sounds very romantic, regardless of what is being said. So Edie gorme is singing in Spanish about food items and trying to make it sound romantic.
