@@truefilm6991 Tommy is obviously Borderline, if you study personality disorders in depth, NOT Narcissistic. It is really, very apparent in the book, especially in Greg's relationship with him which had the classically unhealthy dynamic of a BPD sufferer and their Favourite Person, as it's called. Greg called him his best friend as recently as this 2023, on stage for a screening for Big Shark, and they co-own a media studio, which suggests that they did find a way to make the relationship healthy, but you can still see in some joint interviews, the Favourite Person style validation-seeking from Tommy towards Greg. The difference is, in those interviews, unlike in the timeframe the book describes, it is just cute and appropriate forms of validation-seeking, the sort of thing a therapist would instruct you on doing, not bunny-boiling vibes and feeling threatened by Greg having other friends. Possibly Tommy sought help between then and now, and ended up getting diagnosed and receiving specialist BPD therapy, living as he does in the Self Improvement State, spending a lot of time in LA, having demonstrated a positive view of clinical psychologists by writing the Peter character as a good guy, and having formally studied Psychology in the past. Unlike Narcissists, most people with BPD, whether diagnosed or still confused about what's wrong, are desperate for help with their symptoms if they think it could possibly work, because the self-loathing, fear of abandonment, emotional intensity, rapid mood swings and impulsivity cause themselves great suffering, also evident in the book. So it wouldn't surprise me if professional help is how the relationship with Greg has improved. Contrary to out-dated views, treatment for BPD usually does slowly work, if you get one of the empirically validated methods designed for it.
@compulsiverambler1352 Жыл бұрын
@@truefilm6991 Contd. Other differences between Narcissism and Borderline: In Narcissistic Personality, people believe they are better (deep down, not *worthier*, but better in some sense that they cling to instead) than everyone else. By contrast, Borderlines don't rank people in a hierarchy, they are only preoccupied by the binary categories, good and bad. Because they feel everyone is either good or bad, absolutes with no shades of grey, they desperately want to be morally perfect. Unlike narcissists, knowing they are not morally perfect makes Borderlines hate themselves or vascilate between feeling acceptable and hating themselves, because not perfect = bad person, in their mind. The vascilation is a rollercoaster, sometimes they get validation and feel they are a good person, but it can come crashing down in an instant. The Johnny character is the sweet person Tommy is sometimes but wishes he was all of the time so that his sense of self would be stable, something Borderlines typically struggle with. Other people are also seen as morally pure or terrible, with no inbetween, typically switching wildly between seeing a person as bad and doubting their prior judgement, and back again. When they can't decide which category someone belongs in, and that person might hurt them, they ruminate on it, seeming paranoid - hence the tagline of the Room is "Can you really trust anyone", a typical Borderline anxiety to have.

Watching this live like so many of you made me feel very badly for Tommy. Tommy is awkward, that's who he is but he is a decent soul. James knowing this tried to keep Tommy from doing something awkward but did so to his own demise. No doubt Tommy was heading for the stage and James had to prepare for some kind of damage control but body blocking was by far the worst possible thing he could have done. He came off like a cocky thankless jerk and it is the reason that so many people are blogging about it. All he had to do was hug Tommy, say Tommy I have a brief speech but I also know that you would like to thank everyone, clinch Tommy, guide the speech and then end it there. If it truly got awkward there are enough professionals running things that the music would have been turned up and they all would have been cued to leave the stage as time was up. This really bothered me perhaps more than it should have but it just does..........

I feel the same way... just give the a guy a minute... not a good look. It was James’s award though. Without Tommy’s movie he wouldn’t have received an award for the disaster artist but without the disaster artist tommy might not have ever been on that stage. They both gave each other that moment which should have been celebrated together and each have their moment... and then there’s mark who’s book was arguably the real inspiration behind the disaster artist yet he wasn’t even on the stage. It happens a lot in award accepting where one person makes the speech for a group and no one ever notices it was the fight for the microphone that made everyone’s head turn.

If the roles were reversed, Tommy wouldn't have even invited him onstage, never mind let him speak. Save your sympathy, the man was an absolute dick to his own cast and crew and his inflated sense of self-importance supersedes what little talent he has. The only reason his name is going down in history with any semblance of dignity at all is thanks to James, so he should just keep his mouth shut and be grateful.

Stormy Kopa And without Wiseau Franco wouldn't have won the award. See what I did there?

+juanbarlos without Greg sesteros book we wouldn't have all the juicy details shown in the movie. If that book is any indication of tommys personality, he seems like a pretty egotistical guy, with an overinflated ego and oblivious as to why his movie is loved in the first place ( for being horrible). It is true that tommy still managed to strike gold unintentionally and without him Franco would have nothing to base his performance on, but this was his movie. Tommy made his movie already, and it sucked ass( in the most amazing way possible). He probably gave enough speeches in 2003 to his cast and paid audiences

shytguy Without Tommy making it,directing it,producing it,and financing the movie with his own money the book will never existed and no one is going to give a crap about greg.

Yeah but Franco was the only actor in YEARS to take this story and character and elevate it beyond just cult humor... Franco brought emotion and feeling to a story/individual that even I myself laughed my ass off when I first saw a clip from his movie lolll Yeah Greg... yeah Tommy... etc etc.. at the end of the day however.. NOBODY would even be talking about this movie or having this conversation right now, if it wasnt for the team and Franco even investing their talents into this story and shedding some light on it.... Franco made the right call to not let him talk however... he is indeed... full of himself and delusional.... he may be a nice guy.. doesnt mean he is healthy... and I think Franco and his team shed light in an area nobody would have given a damn about other then to laugh...

If he knew so much about him he should be aware of the fact he was gonna say something and not invite him at all, maybe just thank him from the stage

Wiseau's curse. Soon after, James was cancelled.

Dude let tommy speak. It’s a movie about his movie let the man say a few words instead of cut him off than leave the stage without him saying anything. Don’t mean to be negative here but like come on man.

He should have been allowed to speak

Did James eventually let Tommy say something or did he just want to say something before giving Tommy the mic?

Considering we know who Tommy Wiseau is and how he acts, this isn’t an embarrassing moment, but rather a very wholesome one :)

I remember the period from the announcement to the accolades, the time in which i first was let down to realize that James, who i'd previously thought was pretty cool, was actually a bit of a dick. Who would've known this was probably the but the tip of the douchebaggery iceberg....

He didn't got to stage by himself . There are editing glitches in awards shows .
