This second record never “blew up” like the first album (which had “Jump Around” on it). But, “Same as it Ever Was” is GREAT !! There are upright bass samples across that entire record and that ties the thing-the whole album- together. All the tracks share some unifying elements 🎼

I had the CD recorded on tape from a classmate on middle school. It was one of my fav cassettes I listened to during my skateboarding days. But I remember Wu Tang's 36 Chambers was released around the same time. Might be that album got so much attention that HoP's one got pushed back a bit.

.....Should of got more love back in the day. Another hidden gem. If you are not familiar with Everlast's or Whitey Ford's (whichever name you want to call him) modern stuff, check it out. Check out "The Culling" from 2018 and perhaps "Long At All" from 2011 and see if they grab you, and if so, start digging into the modern albums and you'll find several gems. Hard to believe he can still create this stuff. Oh, also Black Jesus (2002) I think, a "hard" song, it's a bit old but not really old like House of Pain stuff. He's still producing top shelf music. Once middle age and older, very few musicians can make the quality they could in their youth -- he's a rare fish. .

I think "On Point" and "Who's the man" were under appreciated or overlooked because it's when hip hop was starting to shift energy wise. More so for "On point". Jump Around. and Shamrock and Shennanigans just flow. On point flows but it's a transitional like most rap in 94, a different style before 95 when it shifts completely. So it got lost in transition. Everlast voice is really edgy in this. Danny boy flows good, I like Lethals moment. Was always fan of this song.

I completely agree. 88 was the end of track suits and ropes. 89-90 was a transitional time 91-93 was huge for Hip Hop. 94 had groups that still had that 92/93 sound then 95 was a new era completely. Timbs, Polo/Hilfiger, gold fronts etc... I understand exactly what u sayn👊🏽
@seancagney88974 жыл бұрын
@@cesarbaca I had to sit and think but I see exactly what you guys are saying about the transition. 95 just took on a whole direction of it's own with albums from all over. You had Goodie Mob coming out of the South, Mobb Deep Infamous, Gza Liquid Swordz, Raekwon Cuban Linx, Pac coming late in the year I believe with All Eyez (That or early 96) and so on. The sound shift at the time was just huge, good catch.
