For those trying to work out the chord progression, just slow down the video and you can easily see what Zack's doing. G - E7 (no 5) - Am9 - D7 (no 5). Add in the chromatic bass line to make the transition smoother between the changes. Then the turn is C - D - C - Cadd2 (with your thumb on the 8th fret of the E string). Might no bet entirely accurate but that'll get you going. Then jam in G major and you're good to go.

Funny I always think of this in the context of jazz even like a jazz blues. It's interesting how when you can change the rhythm and the phrasing it becomes more like a pop music song just like it was back in the fifties with the doo-wop.

@@TomoFujitaMusic yes, we all do try to copy our heroes and play and be like them. The way we perform is a mixture of dozens of inspirations (not only musical). But sometimes it is a little "too much" if you know what I mean. LC, SRV and plenty others inspired you, but you Tomo got your own cool thing going on. It could have been Miles Davis to say: "it takes a lot of time to sound like real you". Maybe there's a clue for this lad to try develope his own style (at Berklee level of education), not to perfect to mimic and play like another copy of JM
@TomoFujitaMusic
@TomoFujitaMusic 5 жыл бұрын
Your point is clear and loud! So important point is to do first step (copy as much as you can, study the details) then step two is when to stop and not listen those anymore and make a decision to how to make your own sound! This is not natural process (some people only say... it takes years.... but more specic way? My case... away from ES335 first step! Go to Stratocaster... but my case imagine Gibson tone in Stratocaster... so I have worked on picking... plus I am a huge fan of SRV... I can mimic SRV so deeply... but I heard so many people just use a lot of phrases from SRV so mu step two for that... go back blues guitar history to study more older blues guys so that I could make my own blues style which I mix with jazz. Above all, first you got to do copy somebody so close... BB King, Albert King, Albert Collins... you have to that "step one" so good then Step two is waiting for you!! It relates to everything. Good planning, preparation and pure hard work without expecting the result so fast. Be patient and believe yourself!!

@@TomoFujitaMusic Nothing to add Sir! I totally agree that Strats are the way to start it all. I really like your pro attitude and unique playing style (especially your trademark bends). I dig it!

Hmm that was ok. Dont get me wrong. I agree, they got nice tone and feel, but that was nearly all. 90% of the solos were like standart Blues stuff, pentatonics and bendings u hear all the time. Then lil bit of fast and jazzy lines by the teacher but nothin really that special. I expected a little bit more from the "big" berklee school. But hey that's my opinion so #plsdonthate #sorryforbadenglish
