Didn't realize what a tear jerker this one was until I slowed it down,
and found my voice repeatedly getting suddenly cut off by tears.
I almost made it through this take.
I'm not sure where singing comes from, but it seems like all the emotions come from the same place, and sometimes when they dance together, I don't see it coming and the voice just stops and tears pour.
When it happened at a live performance years ago, my voice coach said "Did you get too close to the fire?"
Singing at funerals, I often have to shut the brain off completely and go full robot. It's an interesting line to walk because you want to feel what you're singing, but you also want to make it through the song!
