The knocking from the green hurlimann would concern me for the longevity of that engine (but I could just be from sitting). The silver hurlimann would be much easier to get around the farm and as it's something you use every single day, ease of use is critical.

The knocking was because the engine was cold, it’s called Diesel knock, once the oil gets round and the engine warms up the “knocking” stops.

Hello Tom, I'm from Czech republic, we have one of the biggest farms (average in EU) and in most of them you'll see Zetors. Especially model "Proxima" is mostly the one attached to the feeder as a successor for older models. Drivers in the "animal sector" are typically cheap workers, so machines don't get much love but they last many thousands hours in most cases without problems, this model is commonly used in forestry and by smaller farmers as well - it's pretty universal. Zetor is known for its simplicity and longevity. Even that square John Deere (and many more) was made for them by this red brand (originally Zetor 7245 / 5340).

Hi tom, personally I would wait a bit and assess how much time you can continue using the 885. If you wait maybe your farm can earn more money and spend more later in a good tractor. A tractor is a vehicle quite expensive and you have to think in which one spend the money. Better spend a bit more money on a newer tractor than spend a lot of money in two older tractor along the years. I enjoy your videos a lot, greeteings from Spain.

I won’t say what you should do, it all depends on so many factors. If the Case tractor can be brought up to proper useable spec for say £3000 I would consider keeping it as a spare since it is quasi capable of handling a multitude of jobs in a pinch. You will not receive a high enough trade in value on a tractor that has too many obvious deficiencies. I would buy the simple air cooled reliable Deutz if it goes mainly on the feed wagon. You don’t need a newer tractor on the feed wagon, you need reliability above all else. Life on our farm became less stressful for us once we got to the point where we had more than one machine that could be used to essentially do the same job. Our policy is to basically never trade or sell unless a piece is absolutely no longer useful.

I would see if the Case could be fixed up as a back up because I cannot see it being worth much as a trade in. I am disinclined to go for anything you saw there. I would go for an older tractor, preferably a Deutz, because they are so hard to break- provided it can meet the HP/ manoevreability criteria. Two older workhorses in good order might give you more operational flexibility at less cost. I don't think big money can be justified for a high tech tractor doing mainly yardwork.

The creeper gearing might be handy for the diet feeder. Thanks for offering up to feedback. The other alternative is fix up the old Case and get something about 150 hp, when funds become more available. I could see you were eyeing up the bigger gear at Daves.

My opinion- new tractor would be fantastic as 885 is getting very tired but with the the current cash situation I would give it a miss. An alternative could be to take the loader of the other 885 or use the huiliman when there is minimal land work
@Bazza1973ify2 жыл бұрын
I watched this video earlier & been thinking about it, given the tractors you've been to view, I think if it was me, I'd be spending a bit on the 885, it's a capable tractor. Stick a new clutch in it & a new set of tyres, BKT or something, I'm not talking Michelin, that's 2 days max it'd be out of action for (we used to fit a clutch & have it back together by 10am) & all of a sudden, you've got an 885 that's capable & little wrong with it & you haven't spent £10 000 on something you don't know. The leaking injector washer & jumping out of gear can be addressed at a later date & lastly, it's a tractor you know & trust.

Green herlimann: Seem ideal "however" it does need 4 new tires (Not cheap) as you will be fully aware + there are a few other issues which may become worse as time goes on. 2 options for me 1. The green Hurli would be an ideal alternative, I would want the engine serviced and knocking checked before buying. If it had been sat a while the oil had probably all dropped to the bottom of the sump. Let's hope starting and reving it so early hasn't done any damage. The land drive is also a good option. On blocked feeders you can reverse and take the tension off.

What you need is the little 2 wheel drive case that Ollie bloggs has it would drive the feeder no bother do a bit of fertilisers spreading in the summer and also double up as the perfect scraper tractor

I would also go with the Silver 90HP Hurli. Feels like the perfect size for the jobs you do with that tractor atm!

Find one about the middle and price and you should get the best of both worlds. Definitely not that tractor with the loader - waste of money that one for a workhorse. Love the robot cleaner. Great video as always. Oh for a money tree!!

I think spending the big money is the way forward the newer silver one being small and mighty would be perfect on such a tight farm and versatile so would pay for its self .

I think you'r right I would look at that Hurliman or the Same silver, engine sounded rough as. Hopefully it was just because she had been sitting still for a long time

Repair existing and do a few “while you’re in there’s “ to buy many more years. Less debt is a good feeling, you know a lot about the old tractor.
