KEURIG K-MINI Coffee Maker Leaking Water HOW TO OPEN & Find Leak Inside

How to open your Keurig K-Mini or K-Mini Plus and find your water leak. Just take the outer cover off. Don't open it as much as I did because you will not be able to get it back together. The K-Mini was not meant to be taken apart and repaired. I think the most likely cause of the water leak is going to be the Water tank that has the heating element in it. there is an o-ring that is between the two halves of the water tank and I could see where this could leak.

Just fixed mine that was spewing water out the bottom. Of course the LEAST accessible hose had come off, the one that attaches vertically to the bottom of the main assembly. Rather than tear everything apart. I just drilled a 3/4” access port (aka a hole) and was able to finesse the hose back on and secure with a zip tie. Thanks to you for the first step to access the inner workings, much appreciated!

Thank you so much! I was able to take apart my keurig. It was leaking out of the bottom. The hose connected to the water reservoir had popped off. I popped it back on and put a zip tie around it. I’m waiting until the water dries out of the inside before powering on and running again. Ty for saving me from buying a new keurig for an easy fix!

Thank you so much for your video. I took out the casing as you showed and looked at the tubing. Nothing was disconnected in my case but I noticed a lot of calcium deposit at the end of the lower tubing. So I went and added a full cup of vinegar in the upper reservoir and turned the machine on. 2 cups of liquid came out. Wow! Hardly any leak. I cleaned the small spill and tried again with real water. Perfect water came out and no leak. All fixed! In my case, the problem appeared to be calcium deposit that prevented made the inner reservoir to overspill (not the tubing). My fiance has had one for about 5 years and it started to put up a lot of fuss in the last year or so. We had to sort of bypass the button that sensed when the lid was down and make it think it was closed until it drew in all the water before it would brew. We finally got a Nespresso, and plan to get a nicer Keurig to replace this one so I had some fun stripping it for parts. This video was helpful in deciphering what some of the more random things were. Thanks!

Very helpful for disassembly. I found the water path clogged at the entrance to the k-cup. Cleaned with toothpick then used a straw to suck water and coffee grounds out. The clog causes the over pressure and leak. Just tested; works great. No need to disassemble. I used a second straw to provide water pickup at the one way entrance valve to the top of machine. Suction flushes water through the top of machine after clearing with toothpick.

My neighbor threw out her mini. At first it worked, then it didn't. So I found this on KZbin. I tried to unscrew the screws but no. I then drilled them out and pulled the surround off. Next, I took off the hose that goes to the check valve. I blew into and sucked out on the valve. Put everything back together, and now it works like new!

A masters touch - this worked when I left my K-mini, the no reservoir model, out in the cold overnight. Wouldn't cycle a full cup after I got it to cycle properly again. Removed the two screws on the bottom and used a very thin flat blade screwdriver or you could use a butter knife to remove the snapped hinges from each side. The snap in the top of the back on the inside of the cover is a bugger. Use a flashlight and proceed carefully to release the dual tab. Can't reach it with a pair of needle nose pliers to squeeze the two tabs toward each other unfortunately. Found water in the vent tube near the bottom the left side. Pulled the tube off and drained the water. Pulled a tube off of the check valve and blew and sucked with little results. Slid the tubes back on the fittings. Opened the lid where the K-cup is inserted and put the straw on my computer duster canned air into the hole on a black rubber piece right behind where you drop in the k-cup pod for brewing. Pulled the trigger on the air can and water shot straight up and flowed like a geyser. Repeated about 6 times and water flowed out in a spout every time. When the water stopped flowing I used a Q tip and paper clip to clean the fittings in the lid that sits down on top of the K-cup pod. Namely the rubber piece that matches up with the rubber piece you just shot air into and the paper clip for the needle valve. Spray these with air also. The problem was that the heating tank reservoir was partially filled with water and the level was low enough that I couldn't see it with the cover off. DON'T DISSASSEMBLE THE WHOLE MACHINE TO PULL THE HOSE OFF OF THE BOTTOM OF THE HEATING TANK RESERVOIR, YOU WILL BREAK THE MACHINE AND SAY BAD WORDS. USE A CAN OF AIR WITH A STRAW IN THE TOP UNDER THE COVER TO CREATE A NATURAL GEYSER. YOU ARE WELCCOME.

You showed all the places it can leak but didn't resolve anything. I have water leaking out of the air vents I was hoping to find the solution not every possible place can leak from. If yours was leaking, where,why and resolution? Other than what not to disassemble, I got nothing from this.

The "air pump" is actually a solenoid valve, which you can see if you take it out and give it 12 volts. As far as I can tell it provides a means for the keurig to dump water from the reservoir if certain conditions are met (maybe if the pressure is too high) I'm working on one of these that dumps all of the water out the left outlet through the valve into the tray at the bottom, making a huge racket in the process. As far as I can tell it is because of hard water deposits clogging up the outlet at the bottom of the heater. So hopefully descaling with vinegar will fix

I ended up taking it apart and cleaning it out piece by piece because it was so bad but descaling could still potentially work, I didn't actually really try that in the end.

I think if you run it with the back off maybe it would be easier to identify where the leak was coming from.

Mine pumps water into the heating element then it heats up and it just sits there and doesnt pump water out into my mugg. Had to turn it on and off a few times id beat it and slam it down on the counter and it would usually pump the water out. But its not pumpin it out at all now. That is kind of like what mine does. It heats up the water and usually pumps a couple of tablespoons into the cup, then stops. If I turn it off/unplug, then restart it will pump out a small amount, then stop again. I already tried doing multiple fake brews with vinegar in the reservoir and that did not get it working. Now that I see how, I'm going to take it apart and see if anything looks amiss. Thanks for the detailed video Just-a-Dad!

I have seen two different models that had water left in them and they got left out in the cold and froze. the freezing pushed the hoses of the fittings in a few places and all I had to do was push all the hoses back on

my issue was water coming out the bottom left hole ( if your facing it). evidently both the left and right are air intake lines. both of mine had water suspended in them.when you fired it up it would pour out the bottom.. first i disconnected the line between the pump and the left drain and pinched it of. ran a cup of water through. while it did push some water up to the coffee make it didnt clear. then i disconnected the connecter on the top of the regular valve on right side. i originally thought i would see hot water coming out when i ran a cup. wasnt until i pinched it off hard that i heard the pump really engage and then start blowing hot water though the coffee chamber..put everything back reg, did add small zap-straps on the hoses i loosened and everythings works ok..seem if you get water trapped in those drain hoses you end up with a airlock. mine's working ok now..

I have the same problem. I believe it was caused by dropping it while transporting. Questions: When you did the 2nd step of disconnecting the connector, did you leave the left tube pinched off? When you say 'connector' are you meaning a tube or wiring? And what tube did you pinch off hard? Thanks

Yes my kuerig mini plus leaks just a little water on the right hand side of the drip tray. Only just a few drops and that's since i got it. They say it's normal when you fill with water above 10 oz. And i always prefer 12oz And this happens regularly but it doesn't drip that much out in the tray! At least mine don't!

Thanks for the video! Anyone ever figure out an easy way to get to that little screw hiding under the water tank to get the bottom off? Not overly important but might be helpful to some. Love when they tuck things in hard to reach places like that! (Pulled mine apart thanks to help from your video and believe I have a bad water pump. Ordered a part from ebay and will see if I can fix it. Tried doing a full sized Keurig recently and the bugger just wants to be a P.I.T.A. :D)

To followup on my pump problem, turns out it was seized up, likely from hard water deposits. I was able to get the pump "wirring" again but it wasn't flowing water. I was able to take a syringe (no needle) and push some vinegar through the pump - and it worked! It's flowing great now. Just saved myself $17 for a new one. :D

Part of a dumb design is there is no overpressure escape valve on the tubing from the bottom of the boiler (hot water output) to the output at the top (Needle). So when the needle is blocked the hose expands and can crack which causes a large spill. That's what happened to mine. The hot was in the boiler will reach 202 F before exiting and if there is no where for the hot water to go the silicone hose makes like a balloon.

I do think the they have an air pump because the pump only has an output. it only put air into the line about half way through. so some of the pipes before the air pump will have water in them , hope this helps.

Mine will take in the water and then, before it starts to heat it up, it will dump like half a tray full of water into the tray under the cup. Then it brews the coffee and i only get about 2/3 of a cup but the stream into the cup is really weak and takes a long time any thoughts?

mine leaked and it was the uper nidle that was cloged so water could not go thrue the nidle and open the check valve and water cam out from the botum as soon as i cleaned that nidle water flowed well and it cleaned the nidle

No switch valve between the hot tank and K-cup? That is a major design flaw. It will either begins discharging with luke warm water or vent steam while boiling water depend on how that solenoid switch valve works. Maybe, that is why this unit leaks water because of steam build up.

I have water coming down on my mini plus. I used to let my reservoir with water at night, it was doing good for the first 3 months. Now It has to be unplug and no water . If I let water on reservoir It will leak , I'm not happy about that.

yeah sorry about that. the goal when I started out was to put it back together but that soon didn't last, this was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be, once I started it seemed like the only way to finish was total destruction. I bought this exact machine and we've used it for not even 2 months and it stopped working. The power comes on and then it blinks but when I push the big button on the top nothing happens. I have that same one. Started to work on it and disconnected too many of the hoses. I was actually able to get it back together but still have hoses crossed somewhere. Now, at the end of the heating cycle, the machine pushes the water onto the reservoir that you're supposed to fill before brewing....help!

Wow, sorry about this. Find the water pump and make sure it is sucking from the tank. then the last line should be the for the air pump
