Is it like....guitar to audio interface...Bias Fx 2 capturing and processing the signal...and sending it to a computer speaker ??. BTW...that Bias FX2 software sounds pretty badass. Great video Paul !!. Thanks for sharing. I'm seriously considering buying that Bias FX2.

Hey Paul, hope you're doing fine. One thing I realized having fun with some EQ in bias FX, is that if you boost a little bit in the high mids range (before the amp) it will give a boost to that strat snap, and that could be what's missing to john's tone! Cheers from Brazil! (Hope I'm not talking BS)

Mayer's main reverb is a bricasti m7. The spring reverb was added on a separate track just for the muted kick. The compression was done before the amp, and a bit after the amp. :) The rest wasn't really that complicated :) P.s. since you can choose the mics, it was prolly recorded with a md421 close, a ribbon and a u87 a feet away (off center)

About the john mayer spring reverb. You can actually sidechain the reverb to the dry signal so when you are playing, the notes are loud and clear and the sidechained reverb only acts as a tail instead of sounding off with the guitar. Sidechaining effects makes it sound less washy for the dry signal is heard loud and clear, while the wet signal is compressed and is heard after the dry signal is no longer active. Depending on how you set your compression's attack, release, threshold, ratio and make up gain, you can pretty much play anything without having to sound all washy all the time👊🏻😁. Love your content bro

Excellent video! I think a couple of aspects of Frusciante's lead tone was the 'cone cry' overtones of the speaker getting driven hard at high volumes - quite likely as he was using a plexi driven hard during this album. I know UAD factor this in with their cab modelling. Also, on the record Frusciante uses slide for the solo (likely the most prominent effect on his sound) which will create resonant overtones from the string resonating from the slide back to the nut, which in turn colours the pitches being picked up between the slide and the bridge.
