Hi Matthew, there are a couple of reasons for the height dimension including spring rates and having clearance over the retainer bar underneath. They're actually only about a 1/4" taller compared to a stock nut and cap screw.

Looks cool. Do you have to unlock the low E clamp just to unlock the middle clamp? Seems like there wouldn't be enough room to loosen the middle by itself.

Hi VGMrawk. The locks are designed to independently operate without having to move or unlock the adjacent ones. They're spring loaded so they can be lifted up and indexed without unlocking. I recommend that the two outer ones be slightly splayed outward and the middle one set inline with the strings. This makes it easier to get your fingers in between to unlock them.

for bridge edge ibanez which one should I buy, I saw that there are 2 sizes R2 or R3 ??

You can use the existing nut base and drop fit the Keyless Nut Locks onto it. That being said I believe the Ibanez's use a R3 = 43mm. R2 = 42mm

PS: For us folks with some OCD: How easy/hard is to keep them straight/parallel aligned?

They should work fine on an 8 string.

@@ewerthonmotadeabreu3111 You can lift and rotate them without unlocking to postion them were you like. For best performance they should be splayed out to allow easy access to the handles.
