The pedal itself is a great device, the software is difficult and confusing as most have stated. Besides watching videos, which are not always reliable due to the changes in the software updates, I found the obvious answer for many of my own questions: read the user manual. I say this because I think many, including myself are just too anxious to get going and assume they are smart enough to click around and figure it out. But most likely you will not grasp all of concepts correctly and that will increase your frustration. I’m serious, read the manual. I spent this week going page by page and now I understand so much more! Thank you Tone Shepherd for your video and God bless.

First off... love your channel/content. Great info and I just subscribed. About Tonex... love the pedal - can't stand the software. With every new version they add cool features but just make it more bloated and it is absolutely UNINSPIRING! Just to edit a tone model then to save as a preset then have to import it onto a slot on my pedal. They have such a cool thing with this pedal but the software just makes me want to buy the amp I'm modelling and just be done with it. Anyways...guess I just wanted to gripe for a minute. You are doing great work . Keep it up and have a great day!

@@thetoneshepherd there is 1 more issue I'm having but haven't had a chance to investigate. How to use the tonex as an interface when using the software to try out tones. It plays both the pedal and the app at the same time. Is this just a matter of putting the device in bypass, or is their more to it? I don't want the monitoring output to be a mix of software and direct tone. Did a search on the internet and the only answer seemed to be use a different interface. Which is a stupid answer as the goal would be to have the exact same input gain when previewing sounds as playing them through the pedal.
@thetoneshepherd6 ай бұрын
There's definitely a legitimate answer to this, Ned. And I've seen it done. However, I never use the pedal in Interface mode so I have no personal experience with it. It would do me well to learn how to do this method to help those who want to know out.
@raspillade60273 ай бұрын
@@NedJeffery there are two things you want to change: first, under global settings (upper left parameter button on the pedal), put the pedal into Interface mode (vs. Live mode). That makes it communicate properly to your computer as an audio interface. Second, make sure you’re in bypass mode, press any of pedal foot switches until they are only blinking intermittently (vs. steady on).

Thanks for a great video. Im just trying to get a grip on this software/editor. It may actually have been updated since you posted your video. Anyway, i have just one question for you (at the moment ..i may have more ). You mentioned that changes made to tone models are global and demonstrated that. Then at around 8 mins you demonstrated making changes to a preset. You made the changes in the tone model area/window and then exported the new preset. As the change was made to the tone model (which is global), would that then not have made those changes to all the tone models ? Unless you reset the amp controls their original position (gain, volume etc) ? Sorry if im missing something here - its not the easiest editor to get to grips with. I know its being improved though.
@thetoneshepherd20 күн бұрын
You are correct, the tweaks I made to that one Tone Model would have been applied to all the other Tone Models at that moment. However, after exporting the Tone Model that I was currently tweaking, I can simply reset the EQ and move on to the next Tone Model and tweak that one to taste and then export it with different settings. Once you export a Tone Model as a Preset, those settings are saved to that Preset and then you can keep editing other Tone Models. I know...it's confusing.

With the ToneX One connected via USB-C, what I am hearing when I try to preview an amp, and what I hear when I import a capture into the pedal are completely different. I think that both the capture on the pedal and the capture that I am trying to preview are playing back at the same time. I have no idea how to stop the hardware from playing back along with the previewed capture. You seem to be able to do that in your video, so hoping that you can help me? Also, in the ToneX One manual, it says that I can record the processed signal on input 1, and the dry signal on input 2. On my setup, if I create two mono inputs, it’s just the left and right channel of the processed signal. I can’t seem to figure out how to track the processed and dry signals together. Any ideas? Cheers!

But, do know that the Gain knob on the ToneX pedal (per preset) effectively does the same thing as Input Trim--both simply add clean signal to the front of the capture. So if you wanted to run your Input Trim lower than mine, you could adjust the Gain up on the presets and get close to the same level.

This is a good question. Because I never use the ToneX pedal in Interface mode, I can't comment on how that workflow works. But I do believe it could potentially be easier if you do it that way. I can't believe that IK intentionally designed the tone models to have global settings from the upper window Noise Gate, Reverb, etc. Each tone model should exist as an individual/separate tone patch! At least give the user the OPTION to apply globally or not. The only saving grace appears to be that those changes aren't permanently saved to the tone model if you click over to ToneNet or close/open Tonex software, etc. If they DID save permanently, it would screw up all the tone models from what the designer intended! One would also expect that after you make any changes (as helpfully indicated by the asterisk IK designed into the Tone Model name), that you'd be prompted to save those changes.
