This style of tonglen (taking and giving) practice comes from the mind-training (Tib. lojong) teachings of the Into-Tibetan tradition. It combines practices of compassion and loving kindness to help us expand our mind beyond the habitual types of self-grasping, so that any type of discomfort we might be feeling becomes a source of openness and connection to all other beings.
