I like this technique because there is no mixing with a carrier. It is good you emphasized safe use. I used a variation of it a couple of years ago to kill a large autumn olive tree in our woods which is an invasive here in the Mid-Atlantic USA. I drill several approximately 1 inch holes per trunk with a 3/8" bit several inches apart and will refill a couple of times using Roundup Super Concentrate (50% glyphosate) applied with a plastic syringe. Doing three more now, started a couple of weeks ago in late April and clearly seeing effects. I prefer large specimens of this particular tree species to be completely dead with no leaves before cutting down and replacing with natives in late summer/early fall. We discovered dozens of sapling size autumn olives had infiltrated our small meadow when we moved in, no doubt as a result of the large ones in the nearby woods border. I just cut off and apply the herbicide to the sapling cut stems.

Thank you, I’ve two 50ft plus willow trees, whilst they can look beautiful one out front is damaging our house and cars, the one out back blocks light an fills garden and pool with debris resulting in 10 plus bags of debris a week. Both shed a branch this year having both trimmed at a cost of £700 each... After years of hell with these we’ve drilled a few holes 12 inches deep filling them with Gallup 360. Sad to say it’s exciting 👍👍👍 Sod what the tree huggers say, they don’t live with the dangers, damage and extreme maintenance some trees cause

I should of done it years ago as they became depressing with damage and debris caused from them.

I am extremely disappointed that it created new trees from its spreading roots! SIGH! As of today, I think the number of 2-3ft young shoots/trees I saw were around 70! Damn! Your method worked in the spring contrary to what I've read. Maybe because you used a stronger concentration, a larger volume of Glyphosate and applied it deeper into the tree. So, I'm just going to go ahead and try it now instead of waiting until fall. Glad I found you!
@tongo117

I read the same.. Objective is to kill roots.. Fall, tree sends energy (sap) to roots.. Spring, tree sends energy (sap) to limbs/leaves.. Where the sap goes, the Glyphosate goes.. But, I applied last May and it worked.. I drilled roughly 1/3 into the tree.. 16" diameter with 5 1/4" hole..

Ive done this for years...it works. Its a bit quicker using a 60 cc syringe to draw up the round up......and go buy a long IV needle at a farm store 6 " inches long.... dull the point so you dont poke yourself.....put the needle the full depth into the hole.....otherwise the remaining air in the hole wont allow the Round Up to enter. In larger trees.....say up to 3 ft diameter I will drill three holes evenly spaced around the tree. Allows for a quicker result.......death ! For smaller trees....consider " Pathfinder II " Its a basal treatment 100% effective....also works on multi-floral rose !

I did this before I even looked online to see if it was a thing. I used a regular, thick drill but and drilled 4 downward holes on one side of a black walnut tree and used a dropper to fill the holes with 50% concentrate. After I did it, I was like, let me look online to see if it was a thing lol. And sure enough, hit after hit came back. Your video was listed first I believe. Anyway, within 5 or 6 days after I did it, the side of the tree I did it on was nearly totally defoliated. But the other side of the tree still looks almost normal save for a slight bit of wilting. So will that side of the tree eventually catch up to the other, or will I have to do it on that side of the tree as well? I'd prefer not having to do the other side of possible.

fall/winter is actually a better time to try this from what I've read.. when the tree is sending energy (sap) to the roots and not to leaves/branches.. that sap carries the glyphosate.. by spring should be dead or dying tree..

@@Davethreshold I wanted to be sure, so I drilled 5 holes around the trunk, each about 1-2 ft up from the ground. It worked beautifully. I pruned all the branches down to the trunk and wrapped my vine plant around the bare trunk, all the way 20 ft to the tree top. I was afraid the glyphosate might kill the vine plant, because I used a baby syringe and some of it leaked back out the holes. This did not happen. The pear tree is well and truly dead, vine is happy, and birds love it. I never have to prune that tree again nor pick up the awful fruit that no one wanted.
