I randomly sat in front of the computer and felt that I should practice whistling and, for some reason, being able to whistle notes (which I haven't before) just suddenly clicked out of nowhere. Inspired then went and looked up the best whistlers in the world for more inspiration, was impressed and then searched if there were tutorials and now I'm here. I most likely have no interest in becoming a pro-whistler but will be using your tutorial(s) for accompanying my guitar playing. Haven't been able to check hardly anything out yet, time constraints, but thanks for the uploads as there doesn't seem to be much info on this elsewhere on here. 👍

How to vibrate the whistling?
@ANunes064 жыл бұрын
You can use the full circle at the front of your tongue against the hard pallet to create different tones. You can warble by fixing the tip of your tongue in the front of your mouth and wiggling the sides of your tongue against the sides of the hard pallet to create the air stops. Try it. The glottal stop is also a silly warble. Completely different. Try humming while you do that one. It's ... whacky.
@Pianist2034 ай бұрын
This is a great tutorial. Warbling in general is such technique that when done well in musical way elevates skill level instantly. Each warble probably has its pros and cons, but which warble technique is most versatile and capable in your opinion? For example pitch range and agility (like for trilling effect).
@YukiTakeda4 ай бұрын
@@Pianist203 Thanks for your comment! I’d say the tongue-lower lip warble and the register switching are the most versatile when really developed, but they are not my fortés.
@Pianist2034 ай бұрын
@@YukiTakeda Thanks for fast reply! Those two I was thinking too. Not my fortés either but I recognize the potential. Fast trilling is something that really amazes and puzzles me. In throat warble/register shifting I find that warble position must be very precise, and then accurate breath control to do trilling effect. While that's doable on its own, I think engaging that on the fly during performance would be almost impossible. Lower lip warble I can't do well but I assume that its trilling effects are more viable since it uses the tongue movement. Seems to me that those two warbles are actually quite close to each other.

well the only way I can really explain it is kind of like how you just did I guess I whistle with my tongue actually touching the pallet of my mouth I have been sitting here for a fat minute now trying to whistle with my tongue touching my bottom gums and I can't do it at all feel like a little kid again trying to learn how to whistle but I can do somewhat of a wobble I guess when I whistle I can also hum while whistling and it creates a pretty interesting warble like effect. I can still change my notes and whistle around while humming. definitely doesn't sound like what you just did but has a nice distinct vibration tone to it

I need to hear your whistle to say for sure, but think about increasing the percentage of your breath that’s being converted to the whistle sound. Keep that conversion rate high and use more air.

THIS IS THE VIDEO INEEDED FOR SO LONG AHHH
@SicketMog25 күн бұрын
SO I've been practicing more since my last comment (and "hardcore" for the last few days) since my last comment and can do SOMETHING that sounds like warbling now; basically sound like a bird. Inspiration has been mostly this channel and a video I saw on Reddit of a guy whistling the Wizard of Oz theme really well. Thing is I DON'T do it with the tongue against the pallet technique (can't even produce ANY sound this way with the tongue "in the way"). I seem to rather do it by sticking my tongue in front of my bottom teeth and touching my bottom lip. This technique wrong/less effective? I have a slight overbite; dk if that affects things? This technique allows me to shift notes quickly but may sound worse idk? Also besides now being spot on with notes I can whistle within an octave and then maybe a couple of notes above that. Any tips on expanding range? Pitch is on point, which I credit to speaking a language with pitch accent, but often find I can't go high and ESPECIALLY not low enough. Currently learning to whistle on the inhale (is it normal to have to shift the shape of the mouth/tongue depending on exhale/inhale to produce sound?) and practice consists of whistling video game themes while incorporating the above "warbling" (if it is that) and vibrato and it's actually very fun. Closest neighbour probably hates it already though and winter here is long so he''s gonna have a bad time...
@YukiTakeda25 күн бұрын
@@SicketMog the bottom teeth/lip warble is actually a more versatile option, so congrats!
@SicketMog23 күн бұрын
@@YukiTakeda Thanks for the reply; took me a while to get back as we celebrate on the 24th here. Ah didn't know that but have now been able to shift between more tones cleanly rather than "just" two so that's good. Still want to learn your warble version but still can't do it (tongue just gets in the way). Maybe managed to do something like it yesterday by accident, at least it sounded good, but also almost swallowed my tongue. 🤐 Another question. I can now do a weird "vibrato whistle" that sounds a bit like a cricket (there's no example of it in this video). I do it by producing a silent uvular trill and breath in hard while shifting my chin forward (can't do it well breathing out as the sound is produced in the back of the throat). What is this technique called please? Am quite excited about it. I can now whistle basically as well on the inhale as exhale and am able to match the pitch pretty much instantly. Once I get better at this will try to make some videos for sure (covering video game music in that case). Thanks again for your tutorials/inspiration.

@ the uvular trill is called just like that or one could call it a flutter or a tremolo too. I’m glad you’re enjoying whistling in this way

@YukiTakeda3 жыл бұрын
Hi Harold, thanks for your comment. I do that too for higher notes, and it’s because it helps to reduce the resonance chamber size by blocking the space beneath your tongue. For warbling in higher notes, I recommend learning the cheek warble so that you don’t need to lift your tongue. (see my other tutorial)

Hi I was wandering if any one can warble. I have been practicing for 2 weeks now whenever I’m bored but I can’t get any sound out with my toung at the top off my mouth. Also just for note I’ve been whistling for a while now ever since I was like 8 or 9 and I’m 16 now. I’m able to whistle pretty much every song that I like and I can learn new ones pretty fast just by listening to them for like a hour. But I have really wanted to learn to warble so I can add more style instead off just my plain old whistle. But as I said I haven’t been able to warble even a little bit or get any sound out with my toung on my palet. Is it somthing that I won’t ever be able to do because the way my mouth is shaped. I’ve also tried the cheak warbled but when I grab my cheak I can’t get any sound to com out when I pull it away. So is it somthing I’m doing wrong and I just need to practice more. Or do you think I physically can’t because the way my mouth is shaped what are your thoughts
@YukiTakeda3 жыл бұрын
Hi friend! It took me about 1 year to figure out this warbling, and another 3 years to figure out cheek (partially because there were no tutorials at the time). So don’t give up. Try imagining “hoo” (instead of the normal “phew”) as a sound when you whistle with the tip of your tongue on your palate. There is a slight possibility that your whistling is a different kind (non-pucker) though. If you’re on Discord, look for Whistlecord, and you can ask for advice there with a recording of your whistling.
