Birds actually don't whistle. They don't even have lips...
@Raindropser3
@Raindropser3 7 жыл бұрын
Simon Piniel A whistler mostly whistles with his tongue and with the natural liqud in his mouth. If it's not enough for such songs like this, than he adds some water,as you can see here.
@simonpiniel9055
@simonpiniel9055 7 жыл бұрын
Precious fun fact there... So does it takes lips to whistle or not? In any case, I guess we can agree birds are singing using their vocal cords while he does not.
@Raindropser3
@Raindropser3 7 жыл бұрын
Simon Piniel BOTH , dear Simon. I wrote: MOSTLY he whistles with his tongue, ( while breathing IN ,above his lips). * I ´d like to say it clearer: It´s like playing harmonica~ You make the melody while breathing in & out using your lips AND your tongue.* * I never got it, to play harmonica between the lines of a song. So I tried to whistle the intermezzi. You may watch a clip I uploaded Maybe you can hear how I do it betweeen the lyrics~ kzbin.info/www/bejne/roPLfImmoMmKlZo

I watched this video and became obsessed with learning to whistle, after 3 days of no tone and hours of daily trying I finally got a tone, a my mouth was super sore, by the next day I had several tones and now on day 5 I can do small tunes and my tone is improving tons! You can learn to whistle! Still trying to get vibrato down but I wanna get good, not some half crap whistle but for those first 3 days I wasn't sure I would ever figure it out. XD

This guy is nuts, so clean. I am a pretty decent (and annoying/penetrant) hobby whistler, too. If playing this video at 0.75 speed, that would be kind of my skill level. Actually I can do faster things too but my "voice" will break here and there and it will not be as clean as from this guy's golden mouth. He really is on another level. I am jealous of his very high notes, like the last note of his first song, at 2:18. I cannot do these, only sometimes when I am whistling very loudly

That control and agility with his warbling is very impressive. On other video he mentions that he whistles with throat, which I think means that he warbles with throat/tongue. Those rapid note changes/jumps are probably mostly based on that technique. I can kinda do basic version of that tech but have no idea how he controls it so quick, precise and at so many different pitches. Really masterful.

It's a fantastic lesson in musical phrasing... His phrases are of course limited by the amount of available air in his lungs, so no over-the-bar runs.... Each phrase carefully constructed to only take up specific "bar space", and then using trilling, etc, to "spice it up" and make it more interesting. Well, that's my take, but I've had some beer. For the ultimate lessons in musical phrasing, one must study "Kind Of Blue" by Miles Davis... again, just my humble opium....

what most people don't realize is that this whole performance is above the pitch that even most excellent whistlers can reach. fucking ace. there's a doc where geert faces off with another dude (the aforementioned world championship)...who might actually be better. geert has an incredibly high range, but ive not seen him do many specialty whistles.
