I've had a terrible day today. Coming home and finding this, was what I absolutely needed . Thank you so much!

What, only 20k views!? Well guess everyone's popping off from the Carson era that's too bad. I'm 66 and I'll never forget just how good Carson made America feel. And actually there's been no one since Carson to match that special magic the Tonight Show had for some 30 years! 💕 Watching this sure brought back some very good enjoyable memories. I nearly busted a gut laughing at many of these skits! 😅 All the old commercials were fun to see again too. I really needed to smile and laugh like this made me do! I thank you very much for posting this gem and hope more people will check it out! RIP Johnny Carson and good ole Ed McMahon too!😊👍🇺🇸

Just watched this. The original commercials within the show really put me "back in the day" more than just a compilation of spots. Very nice.

SO many memories! The Tylenol poisonings, those 3wheelers they soon banned, the countless, sexism in commercials~~

Thanks for posting this gem. Johnny had 20 years completed and 10 to go. He was the king of late night and this shows why. It's too bad that most of the shows from 1962 to 1972 are gone. I like the segment with the comedians. It's incredible to think of all the legendary comics who got their big break on this show. One appearance could make or break a career. Johnny had that kind of power. It's much different today.

It exists on Kodachrome in a longer length. I wonder why NBC never bothers to air that version.

Everytime Johnny did his golf swing, it reminded me of LAUGH-IN's Dick Martin, who did a similar golf swing when he said, "Take it away, Goldie(Hawn)!"

There are some gems sparkling throughout this special. Love Doc and Johnny's riff on Thanksgiving and New York, New York montage. Really enjoy Diahann Carroll's delivery of that song. I'd never seen Johnny as Any Rooney. Too funny. The commercials are a treat too. NBC's Wednesday night line-up was good and miss the old AT&T commercials.

I was almost 15 years old when Johnny Carson celebrated his 20th anniversary as host of The Tonight Show. It really was a big celebration that everyone was talking about in 1982. I seriously doubt there will be another late night talk show host that will ever be remembered like Johnny Carson was.

To see the pure brilliance of Carson you only have to watch the Ed Ames tomahawk throw. Ames moves toward the target to retrieve the tomahawk and Carson stops him, knowing that this is comedy gold and he wants to milk it for all its worth. Then while Carson is busying his hands by knocking the tomahawks together he comes up with the Jewish line which is actually genius.
