Can we talk about how "a girl like you" watered down "I have no control over my life" to "I want to read all day"? That really bothers me because it's made super clear in the first song but then in "a girl like you" she only sings about her fancy breakfast. Not the mile long to do list she has absolutely no say in.
@ChestersonJack Жыл бұрын
That’s fair. I always assumed that musicals sometimes abridged things the characters were saying diegetically in order to fit the song, but in truth, Annalise told Erika all of her true problems; she just didn’t need to in the song since we as the audience already knew them from the first song.
@morinomajou Жыл бұрын
I feel like the parts of it that do get touched on in A Girl Like You aren't really taken seriously either though, like... even this comments section is full of people making fun of her for complaining about having to marry a man she doesn't know, but considering what married life was often like for women during that time? The fact that they kept Julian's voice crack in "To Be A Princess" is my favorite part of the song. My sister and I would pretend that we were Annalise and Erica. She was always jealous that I was Erica and we would fight over who would be her. My favorite two memories of us playing as them was: • Woofy (Erica's bewitched cat) gets sick and starts to meow as normal. And that made me as Erica panic because he "wasn't the same anymore" even though she had sung a whole song about how her cat was perfect the way he was. • And (My personal favorite) Seraphina gets stuck in a tree and Annalise goes to save her...and then she also gets stuck in a tree and Erica has to rescue her...This actually resulted in my sister getting stuck in a tree *for real* and child me getting panicked that I would get in trouble and running off...I did go back and help her. Mainly because I knew I would get in trouble since she was yelling my name. Ah, the joys of childhood. Also watching the movie as a kid I hated Preminger because he was "the bad guy" now he's my favorite character and my sister and I have listened to "How Can I Refuse" on multiple occasions and can almost sing it word for word. And whenever I see Martin Short (Preminger's VA) in any type of media. I'm like, "That's not (insert character here) that's Preminger." Also, one time my sister and I were listening to "You'll Be Back" from Hamilton and she said, "This sounds like something Preminger would sing." And that led to us acting out the entire song as Preminger. Best. Night. Ever.

I grew up watching this movie in Swedish, so for me the songs in Swedish are a lot more nostalgic to me. And if a calico was to be born a male, he would be sterile and can't make babies. How was it posible for them to have kittens? Unless..... sarafina was cheating or was a male cat herself.
