When I was a kid, Redondo was my dad's favorite place. We woukd to to the fresh fish market and buy fresh steamed crabs and eat them on the benches. Many years later when my dad was dying of cancer he asked me to take him there one last time. I took him there so he can enjoy his memories. The morning after he passed, I drove out there to sit and remember him. Never fished the breakwater and Redodno wasn't the prettiest place but it holds dear memories for me.

My best recommendation *(for the breakwall/jetty)* would be to use lead head jigs with soft plastic bodies. You can buy bags of those. Also make sure the hook on those are facing upwards. You WILL regret taking your favorite lures after losing them. OR: use cut bait such as squid or your cheapest grocery store bought RAW shrimp with a hi/lo rig using a torpedo sinker at the bottom.

Sorry you ate it bro, you wouldn’t catch me out there that far on the jetty. Maybe when I was younger, lol 😝. I’m 76 now so I have to be be more careful… I grew up in SoCal and fished a lot at Redondo. Loved the bonito and mackerel action! Most people don’t like those two fish because they’re oily and strong in flavor. My Filipina wife and I absolutely love stronger tasting fish so bonito and mackerel are high on our list. Anyway, I enjoyed your video and I hope to see more… Dan Suzuki, Retired USAF and Vietnam Vet (:

Heres my story. I was on an inflatable boat with my fiancee and the wind picked up and our motor died. 3 hours of paddling by hand just to find out my motor had a short-circuit and I just had to press a red button. lol What was the first lure you were using? Awesome catches!
@WETTHATLINE2 жыл бұрын
LOL geez that's one way to never forget that red button for the rest of your life LOL. The first jig I was using is a Peche jig. 40g I like using the blue and pink. Although any blue and pink lure ranging from the 40 G to 60 G weight does real well I find. On Piers I let it sink to the bottom and then jig it from the bottom. With Bonita on the piers I the best luck when they are boiling and I can toss it right into the boil so I get a reaction strike so that's pretty rare but you can catch mackerel and Bonita on that pretty easily

there used to be a lot of very big halibut right in that corner late 60's. Next time cast a main line far as you can with an anchor type lead. connect about 3 feet of leader to a snap swivel use hook to match bait, sardine small mackerel and attach to main line slide it into the water. the bait will work its way to the bottom if not eaten first. I was a kid the old guys owned that spot they used to make us move mom would drop me of and i would spend the night. live sardines were a buck? I still have live bait tickets from back then.
@WETTHATLINE2 жыл бұрын
Daaang yeah the further back you go the better the fishing was. I just recently saw someone catch a 23 inch halibut they're not very big but they are around. I do that set up with a dead sardine or mackerel for leopard sharks and bat rays
